Welcome to The Fletcher School Africana Conference!
The Fletcher School Africana Club is pleased to present the first Annual Africana Conference titled Africa Beyond the Headlines to be held on March 28th, 2014 at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
This inaugural event marks the Africana Club’s first annual conference and will build on the success of last year’s event Africa’s Turn? hosted by The Fletcher Institute of Business in the Global Context (IBGC). This year’s conference will feature several cross-disciplinary panels that will delve more deeply into specific aspects of security and development in Africa.
Panel I, “Strategies to Counter Violent Extremism in Africa,” will consider the rise of militant groups on the continent and strategies to counter them. Panel II will tackle Africa’s infrastructure challenges, with a focus on new initiatives to ensure energy and water security. Panel III will approach food security from the specific lens of the continent’s nascent commodities exchange systems and their role in developing agricultural markets. Finally Panel IV will examine innovative and cost-effective approaches to addressing public health challenges in Africa.
We are pleased to welcome a distinguished list of participants including our esteemed keynote speaker, Clare Akamanzi, Chief Operating Officer at the Rwanda Development Board (RDB). This institution best exemplifies the spirit of an institution spearheading and ensuring the country’s economic prosperity and security despite a difficult past.
Please join us for a lively discussion as we explore strategies and best practices in addressing Africa’s security and developmental challenges.
We look forward to welcoming you to The Fletcher School!
