Philanthropy

Philanthropy makes up an significant part of ATO. Because we are not a national order, we have the opportunity to pick which charities we want to benefit. We strive to support organizations whose values and missions match our own. Currently, ATO supports Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) and Mystic River Watershed Association (MyRWA) with a number of events and fundraisers. Once or twice a semester, ATO members pick up trash along the banks of Upper Mystic Lake. This assists MyRWA in their efforts to clean up the river, which flows from the lake. Additionally, ATO fundraises for BARCC, most often through selling homemade cookies. This past fall, a few members had the chance to volunteer at BARCC’s Champions for Change gala. This event celebrates the men and women who have supported BARCC in their efforts to fight sexual violence. On April 7th, ATO will be helping to run BARCC’s Walk for Change, which raises awareness about sexual violence and supports survivors and their family members.
