Research Experience
Research Assistant at Tufts University (2007-Present)
- Researched modeling study on petroleum migration/trapping in the Los Angeles Basin
- Focused on the effect of large-scale faults on hydrogeologic system in the LA Basin, and how these system changes affect petroleum migration and formation of hydrocarbon reservoirs.
- Developed a multiphase flow model (TUFTS-FV) coupled with heat transport, using a combined finite element and finite volume method
Research Assistant at Johns Hopkins University (2004-2007)
- Researched modeling study on the Chesapeake Bay hydrogeology with emphasis on the role of groundwater discharge to the bay water quality
- Investigated physical/chemical interactions between groundwater and estuarine water in complicated hydrostratigraphic framework
- Developed a coupled free-fluid and porous flow model, applying Navier-Stokes and Darcy flow equations for each flow regime
Research Assistant at Seoul National University (2001-2003)
- Researched modeling study on seawater intrusion in a coastal aquifer induced by massive groundwater extraction (funded by 21st Centry Frontier Research Program run by Korea Ministry of Science and Technology)
- Investigated groundwater response to periodical pumping and unique salinization pattern by layered heterogeneity using a coupled variable density groundwater flow and solute transport model
- Researched geochemical study on groundwater quality in a LPG gas storage site contaminated by various industrial chemicals (funded by SK Gas Corporation)
- Investigated groundwater residence time and flow rate using environmental radiogenic isotope tracers (3H/3He)
