BMES recap – Alex Mitropoulos:

- What is BMES? Conference is in Atlanta, Georgia for 2012, 3 days
- Ground breaking research presented, poster presentations and talked ranging from Professors to undergraduates
- Alex postered: modified desk embosser? Sub-micron sphere application in silk
- Tons of stuff: Program Book. Interesting talks: Optical trapping being able sort by size (Naval Research Labs, Maryland)
- If you start conducting research, talk to Professor to plan about going to BMES. Next year’s conference is in Seattle
- 2013 conference is September 23rd, Application submitted in April (graduate students), August? (undergraduates). Submit abstract (1 page) More Info

Industry Days Recap:
-Five different companies came to talk about what they look for internships and what they look for in resume/candidate
-Understand what you would be doing so you can talk about it during interview (show that you’ve done your homework)
- Room should’ve been bigger.

We also talked about our schedule going forward, and what the members most wanted to see. Stay tune for information about the Scitech Costume Contest this Halloween, a potential company tour in early November, a tour of the BME facilities at MIT and BU, and information about how to find an internship.

Our next club meeting will be on October 24th, 4:30 in ADSN 210. More info to come.

From experience, Tufts Community Day mostly attracts local children, so our activity will be targeted towards them. This year we will be crafting silk cocoon figures, shown below..

-Eboard

On Wednesday, 9/26, we will be holding a resume/career fair workshop during our meeting. We hope to have a guest speaker from industry that can talk specifically about what they look for when hiring, and we are creating a packet of additional useful information for building your resume that you can take home.

We hope that this will be a very useful and interesting meeting, and hope to see you all there. Pizza will be served.

Some of you might have made homemade ice cream using plastic bags and ice cubes. BMES is taking it up a notch and making Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream. We’ll have vanilla and chocolate, and everyone will get a scoop. Bring your friends and faculty. Everyone is welcome (until we run out of liquid nitrogen haha).

At this meeting we will also watch a short video about some research coming from Tufts BME and discuss the plans we have for this upcoming year.
