Looking to practice your Spanish speaking skills? Ally Barnes, a first year HCOM student, is looking to put a group together to work on speaking Spanish, particularly within a healthcare/public health context. There would also be some social activities, such as going out for tapas, seeing Spanish films, etc. If you would be interested in joining the group, or would like more information, please contact Ally at Allison.Barnes@tufts.edu.
***

As the semester starts up, Stefanie at Health Resources in Action wanted to let CHAT know about an exciting volunteer opportunity. They are seeking volunteers to help at a series of meetings in October. Here are the details:

Description: Health Resources in Action is working with the MA Department of Public Health’s Bureau of Environmental Health to plan a series of five regional meetings across the state. The topic of the meetings is: Building Capacity to Respond to Climate Change Impacts on Health: Results of the Statewide Survey of Local Health Departments in Massachusetts. Municipal planners, Boards of Health and others will attend the meetings; which will include a discussion of best practices for local health to address climate change.

What: Help with logistics and note-taking at a series of regional climate change capacity meetings across the state. Attend at least one planning meeting or call prior to the event. Volunteers are also needed to help prepare materials in advance of the meetings.

When/where:
Volunteers can sign up for some or all of the regional meetings. They prefer volunteers who can attend multiple meetings.
10/1/12 9 am – noon Middleborough Town Hall
10/2/12 9 am – noon Lenox Town Hall
10/3/12 9 am – noon Tewksbury Hospital
10/10/12 9 am – 12:30 pm Worcester Public Library
10/11/12 9 am – noon Framingham Town Hall

Travel: Transportation to and from meetings will be provided (carpooling from Boston).

Qualifications: Reliability, note-taking skills, positive attitude and interest in topic.

Interested? Please email Stefanie Valovic at svalovic@hria.org with your availability, noting which meeting(s) you are able to volunteer at. We will select 1-2 volunteers per event.

Please respond by September 14.
