Tufts China Care is an independent, student run club at Tufts University, and a recognized chapter under the China Care Foundation, Inc.
We are a group of dedicated students working together to improve the lives of orphans with special medical needs living in the China Care Home and Half the Sky‘s orphanages. For our immediate community, we strive to help local Chinese adoptees connect with their birth culture and raise awareness on campus for international adoption and the situation in China in regards to abandoned children.
Our main activities include our Dumplings playgroup, fundraising, movie screenings, speaker events, and Tufts’ only annual fashion show.
In addition, Tufts students are granted the opportunity to travel to China and volunteer in the China Care Home over the summer. This worthwhile experience allows China Care volunteers to see the direct impact of our fundraising efforts as they meet the children we’ve helped through our donations. Volunteers always return with a mission that is deeply ingrained, to help children like the ones who they met in China, many of whom were abandoned by their parents because they couldn’t afford the cost of caring for their sick child. Read more about volunteering in China on our summer abroad page.
Get Involved
There are many different ways for you to help carry out China Care’s mission!
First, you can apply to join the executive board. The e-board members run all of China Care’s programs throughout the year and are required to attend weekly meetings, and participate in fund raising events, Dumplings playgroup, and other activities. Elections are held at the beginning of the academic year. Email tuftschinacare@gmail.com to be notified when applications are available, and keep a look out on our Facebook page to hear about when our general interest meeting (“GIM”) will be held.
The LUX Fashion show, held in Spring semester, also requires the support of all sorts of people in the Tufts community. We will be looking for models, teams of students to work on sponsorship, promotions, and creative aspects of the show, and volunteers to help with stage managing, lighting, and other things necessary to run a smooth show.
Finally, nothing China Care has accomplished would have been possible without the Tufts community supporting us in our fund raisers and awareness raising events. One of the best ways to help China Care is to come to our Bubble Tea Sales, buy tickets to LUX, attend our movie screenings, and encourage your friends to do the same!
