Connect2 is about telling stories. Throughout history, the art of storytelling has been used to connect people and to lend voices to people from many cultures and backgrounds. SCALE, the Somerville Center for Adult Learning Experiences, implemented Connect2, a digital storytelling project, last year.

Connect2 is modeled after StoryCorps, an NPR program.

Connect2 is modeled after the ongoing NPR StoryCorps Project. StoryCorps presents an opportunity for people all across America to document their personal histories through storytelling. Its immense success demonstrates how powerful stories and the spoken word can be.

Why introduce a storytelling initiative to SCALE? The students who come to SCALE, many of whom are immigrants, represent the diversity that makes Somerville such a culturally vibrant and rich community. Their stories draw from many different countries, perspectives, struggles, and triumphs. It is vital that these stories be preserved and shared, as they make up an important and often invisible part of our nation’s history. Help spread knowledge and understanding by listening to and sharing the stories and snapshots that have been captured thus far through the Connect2 Project!
