I met up with a fellow microfinance intern from Oaxaca at a cash-only bar, and she was concerned about having enough on hand for a drink. We never would have let that happen Oaxaca, where cash is king. People never let their cash supplies get too low because cards just can’t be counted on there.  Going cardless hasn’t been exceptionally difficult for one week, but it was much easier to be cardless in an environment where everyone was effectively cardless and everything cost less. My stack of bills is lower now than it was a week ago, and I will be happy when I can use my CharlieCard again (I felt bad about using the paper tickets.)
