The rules are simple: for one week, give up paying with paper or paying with plastic. A cash fast, if you will, for half the group; and a cards fast for the other.

Rules | Students agree to give up one set of payments for a week and blog their experiences. The no-paper (cashless) group gives up paper payments: cash, checks, and money orders. The no-cards (cardless) group gives up all electronic payments: JumboCash, credit cards, debit cards, ATMs, online purchases, PayPal, LevelUp, Starbucks, CharlieCards, mobile payments.

Students are randomly assigned to cashless or cardless groups on March 29, but can swap groups with a willing counterparty.

Blogs | Students will submit at least one blog entry (preferably with a photograph) at some point before 10:00am on April 6. (guidelines)

Deadline | Register by March 28 at midnight. Stragglers by noon 3/30.

Dates | March 30, 4:00pm — April 6, 10:00am

Cash(less) Prize | All students that complete the week will be entered into a drawing for a $100 prepaid card courtesy of MasterCard Worldwide. (Think: Trader Joe’s supplies for the end-of-semester party!)

Blog Prize | Best blog entry wins a home-cooked dinner for the winner and three friends with Kim Wilson and two other Fletcher faculty on April 27 on April 24 on April 28, Saturday night. (Sorry for the change of date.)

You could win both! May the best blogger win!
