Shared Pride, Shared Mission
A message from the alumni association president
I can’t believe I’m almost finished with my year as president of the Tufts University Dental Alumni Association. It has gone by in a flash. In that time I have had the wonderful opportunity to meet and engage with many students, alumni, faculty and staff. In the conversations I’ve had with many of you this year, there is always a sense of shared pride for our alma mater.
At numerous events, starting with last year’s reunion, we have been able to share with many of you what the mission of our alumni organization is: “To further the interests and goals of the School of Dental Medicine at Tufts University; to further the art and science of dentistry; to promote fellowship among the members of the association, the faculty and the student body.”
We promote these objectives in many ways throughout the year. In September, the Dental Alumni Association sponsored the 32nd annual Wide Open Golf Tournament, which raised more than $24,000 for the Student Loan Fund. We have visited with more than 1,500 alumni at regional receptions, including the American Dental Association meeting in October, the Greater New York Dental Meeting in December, Yankee Dental in January and at Red Sox spring training. One of my personal favorites is the Student/Alumni Networking Event held at the school in March. This informal evening brings together students and alumni to discuss issues pertinent to their burgeoning careers. The enthusiasm that students and alumni bring to this event always creates a wonderful energy in the room.
During my tenure I have had the chance to see firsthand how hard Dean Huw Thomas is working to enhance the education of our students, academically and clinically. Our school is well known and respected, but we are not resting on our laurels.
Please stay connected to your Tufts family through the Dental Alumni Association. It is through your membership and dues that we are able to continue the programs and activities we offer each year. So don’t forget to pay your annual dues. You can do so online at dental.tufts.edu/alumni. We truly appreciate your financial support and your presence at our events!
I am particularly grateful to so many of the outstanding alumni, especially the former members of the Alumni Association Board. I am also thankful that we share such a strong relationship with the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. They work so hard to ensure the success of our association and our incredible dental school.
