You’ll Get Back Much More Than You Give

A message from the president of the Tufts Dental Alumni Association.

The School of Dental Medicine gave us that confidence and the tools to take us where we wanted to go. When I started my career, I was encouraged by my partners, Jess Kane, D74, DG76, AG78, DG79, D04P, DG06P, and John Ficarelli, D73, DG76, D10P, DG12P, to get involved with the alumni association. I quickly realized on my own what it means to give back, and to be involved with the school that gave me, and all of us, so many opportunities. And volunteering for the TUDAA is a way to make sure that other students have similar opportunities.

There are so many ways to give back—going to events; giving a lecture; teaching; mentoring a dental student— the student you mentor might even become a future TUDAA president. Volunteering with the alumni association has given me lifelong connections with classmates, an opportunity to meet alumni from other classes and form new friendships. You will also discover that you will get back much more than you give.

I want to thank my fellow board members; the staff from the Office of Development and Alumni Relations; and our dean, Huw F. Thomas. Being president of the alumni association has been a lot of fun—I’ve enjoyed the Wide Open golf and tennis tournament, the student-alumni networking sessions, dinner with the senior students, the Legacy event, and witnessing the start of the school’s 150th anniversary celebration. My connection to the School of Dental Medicine is very important to me, and I hope that I’ll continue to meet and work with all of you who share this bond.
