Spring 2019

Paying It Forward to the Next Generation

A message from the president of the Tufts Dental Alumni Association.

This past year has been a productive one for the Tufts University Dental Alumni Association (TUDAA). Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your alumni association president. I want to express my gratitude to my fellow TUDAA board members, the staff in the office of Development and Alumni Relations, Dean Huw Thomas, and our 9,000 alums for working together to ensure the continued successes of the alumni association. This position has allowed me to meet many alumni from around the country and beyond, as well as many parents and dental students—our future alumni.

On behalf of the TUDAA board, I wish to thank Dean Thomas for his efforts to finalize the board’s transition into the Tufts University Alumni Association and also to wish him well as he moves on to work on interprofessional education initiatives with the university. During the dean’s eight-year tenure, he has always been supportive of the TUDAA mission.

TUDAA, along with the office of Alumni Relations, has been working on some alumni-engagement opportunities, including the relaunch of regional alumni chapters in New York City, northern and southern Florida, northern and southern California, the southeast states, and Tennessee. The association had a tremendously rewarding fiscal year. Contributions from faithful alumni have bolstered the association and its endeavors to support dental students through endowed scholarships. The Student Alumni Networking evening was also a well-attended event.

The Wide Open golf tournament continues to be a hallmark fundraising event. Last year, it brought in new corporate relationships with record fundraising totals, and we are looking to raise even more money for the student loan fund this year. I encourage you to participate in the 2019 Wide Open on August 26—call 617-636-3475 to register.

All of us have benefited from generous alumni who came before us. Please stay connected to our alma mater and make an annual contribution so we can continue this good work into the future and keep TUDAA strong. No donation is too small, and it may be tax-deductible. Let’s pay it forward to the next generation of Tufts dental students and ensure our institutional success.
