Coastal Climate Impacts Project Intern

Under the direction and supervision of the UCS Senior Climate Economist, the Coastal Climate Impacts Project Intern will primarily provide support for the analytic components of the project (including but not limited to research support and general help with factsheets and case studies). The intern may also provide general support for the project team as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Help conduct research for the climate change and coastal impacts analytic products, with direction from supervisor.
  • Help organize materials and references to aid in research as needed.
  • Provide assistance with design elements (such as photos, captions) and limited editing tasks related to fact sheets and web content.
  • Help update project documents as needed.
  • Help identify and contact key experts or stakeholders as needed for the purposes of collecting information for analytic products.
  • Help as needed with other tasks related to the project such as providing back up support for media or outreach work.

In return, the intern will have an opportunity to work alongside a highly dedicated multidisciplinary team of experts to help support their research related to climate change, sea level rise and its impacts on our coastal communities; Learn basic research skills in a science-based advocacy organization; Learn the basics of producing good science-based materials for the general public and have an opportunity for mentorship to help further future academic or career choices.

Qualifications and Experience Experience with online research. Computer skills, especially Word, Adobe Acrobat, Excel, Powerpoint. Experience with mapping or graphing software would be a plus. Candidate should be able to independently execute tasks with appropriate direction/supervision, balance a multitude of tasks, be a self-starter, and collaborate as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

Compensation, Hours and Location: This is a summer, forty hour per week position based in UCS’s Cambridge, MA  office. Interns at UCS are paid a monthly salary of between $1,733 and $2,080 based on level of education.
