Farmer, Fat Sheep Farm & Cabins

by Grace L. Schumaker on October 17, 2017

Fat Sheep Farm & Cabins, Hartland, Vermont

Looking for a couple, or individual, to spend at least the 2018 farm season on a farm helping with caring for both livestock and the crops, as well as assist with our rental cabin business on the farm.  Start date would be in May of 2018 and a minimum commitment through October of 2018 is required.  Housing is provided.  Open to year-round, long-term commitment.

From week to week, the job would change depending on your interests and the needs of the business.  Although you would not need to do all of these tasks, we could use help with:
-planting
-weeding
-harvesting
-caring for our sheep, laying hens, and goats
-milking the sheep,
-cheese making
-selling produce at the market
-delivery of produce to restaurants
-doing laundry for the cabins
-making beds in the cabins
-occasionally cleaning the cabins when our cleaners are unavailable.

At a minimum, you must be willing to weed and harvest on the farm side of the business, and empty trash/recycling/compost, do laundry, and make beds on the cabin side of the business (and the occasional cleaning of a cabin).

We are open to both part time and full-time arrangements and would offer a newly renovated in-law suite apartment with private entrance, kitchen, and bath as part of the compensation, as well as access to the food we produce. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wants to live in a beautiful place (with an amazing view from your bedroom window) and is willing to work
hard and help out with both the farm tasks and getting the cabins ready for guests.

On our website, www.fatsheepfarmvermont.com , you can find the many area attractions and things to do which you would have ample opportunity to enjoy.

The ideal candidate(s) would have some farming experience, be willing to work in all weather conditions, be able to lift 50 pounds, make a bed better than a teenager, and would approach the work with a positive attitude, sense of humor, and a commitment to be efficient, flexible, and helpful.

Recent graduates, people in the midst of a life transition, or those interested in agritourism, are particularly encouraged to apply.  We would like to spend some time getting to know each other to ensure we would be a good fit so we would love to hear from you sooner rather than later.  Let us know if we can answer any questions, and thank you!

COMPENSATION
Weekly pay on top of housing based on experience and number of work hours
