Administrative Assistant with Film Experience Young Voices for the Planet

Washington, D.C. or Boston area (March 2018)

This nonprofit organization is seeking someone with organizing, writing, film editing and social media skills. We also seek an individual with creativity and a demonstrated passion for work that serves the public good and, in particular, our mission: fostering youth empowerment and environmental literacy.

Who We Are: Young Voices for the Planet (YVFP) was founded to limit the impacts of climate change through empowering youth who have an essential role in informing society and catalyzing change since they will bear the brunt of climate disruption. Our mission is to amplify the youth voice, promote greater energy awareness, and inspire young people to take action through our short Young Voices for the Planet documentaries showing true stories of youth solutions to the climate crisis.

Qualifications and experience:

— fluency with MSWord, Excel, Facebook, Twitter, Vertical Response, internet browsers and other social networking and social media

— strong writing, public relations, administrative and organizational skills
— self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team — strong oral communication and interpersonal skills
— attention to detail
— ideally, film editing experience with Premiere

Responsibilities (under the direction of and reporting to the Executive Director and Program Coordinator):

1. Communication and Outreach: Coordinate with broadcast partners and many non-profit groups linking to our films and using them in their programs (educational institutions, youth, environmental groups, government agencies, science museums and science centers, bookstores and online catalogues). Manage and facilitate the use of the YVFP films in workshops, programs, publications, conferences and websites. Manage Social Media: Write blogs and articles and coordinate volunteers to tweet and post on social media

2. Provide administrative, technical, and communications support to the director: write, edit and proofread proposals; manage our Action Map, google docs and other google programs and email; schedule and prep for speaking engagements.

3. Expand the reach of YVFP by helping to build new and existing relationships especially to educators interested in using the YVFP Civic Engagement curriculum.

4. Public Relations: Update media kit, website and social media in coordination with the program coordinator; assist with publicizing film screenings and youth efforts through TV, radio, newspaper outlets; arrange media interviews with the young people in the YVFP films; assist with the creation of quarterly YVFP newsletters in Vertical Response; assist with social media posts (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram) as a promotional tool.

5. Database Management: In Excel spreadsheets record and update: DVD orders, member and mailing lists, databases, photo and footage releases.

6. Collaborate with the Director and Board of Directors and keep in touch with the youth, musicians, editors, cameramen who have contributed to the YVFP films.

7. Work with our attorney to track and finalize contracts with distributors, camera crews, editors and vendors and verifying that all media in films is licensed.

8. Help prepare reports, press releases and proposals for fundraising and development. 9. Confer with accountant and keep track of books with quickbooks.
10. Organize film screenings at theatres, film festivals, congregations and temples

Transcribe films, edit and submit films to film festivals: create film clips with Premiere and submit through Without a box, Youtube, DropBox; provide film clips for broadcast media and partners; help develop story flows for new films; Ideally, edit rough cuts of new Young Voices for the Planet films.

12. Manage Calendar for the director and other staff

13. Conferences and Workshops: Leverage connections with key organizations and educational institutions that can host YVFP Civic Engagement Workshops. Help organize workshops, set up exhibits attend conferences, and assist at film screenings. Organize youth panels to speak after film screenings.

14. Science Museums & Science Centers: organize screenings and correspondence
15. Film Responsibilities: Arrange for film translations and subtitling, and work with designer to

create DVD sleeves and labels.
16. Organizing: Work with fundraiser hosts to arrange fundraisers.
17. Metrics: Put in place metrics for YVFP website and facebook page
Salary: $40,000 or commensurate with ability and professional experience. Possibly part-time
