Harvest of the Month Coordinator | Maine Department of Education’s Child Nutrition

The Maine Department of Education’s Child Nutrition Team manages several federal programs to improve the nutrition environment and reduce hunger for pre-kindergarten through grade 12 students including Farm to School initiatives. Harvest of the Month is a program that promotes the use of seasonal, local foods in school menus by highlighting a different product each month. The Harvest of the Month Coordinator will develop and oversee the Maine Harvest of the Month Project and will actively recruit schools to participate. The position will develop marketing materials for school nutrition programs and conduct trainings and technical assistance to schools to ensure they have the tools for success. This position will involve statewide travel and overnights as needed.
 
Required Duties:
· Research and recruit potential schools to participate in the Harvest of the Month Project
· Provide technical assistance to schools by phone, email or in person, including one-on-one assistance as needed, to assist with successful implementation
· Consult with the Child Nutrition Consultant to establish contacts and assist with development
· Develop marketing materials for each Harvest of the Month, including posters, newsletters, taste testing’s and recipes
· Develop a calendar of each Harvest of the Month, keeping in mind seasonality, and including dairy and seafood
· Plan and conduct five regional trainings for schools with help from the Maine Farm to School Network and Child Nutrition Agency
· Utilize resources to develop program materials, such as other State Agencies and non-profits including the Maine Farm to School Network, Maine Dairy and Nutrition Council and Gulf of Maine Research Institute
· Develop and maintain a website for schools to access marketing materials for the program
· Create project timeline to ensure timely completion of duties · Compile quarterly reports as required
· Report to the Child Nutrition Director and/or designee
· Additional duties may be assigned as project moves forward
 
This is a part- time, 12 month (tentative) position with flexible hours. The position will be located in Augusta and will involve statewide travel and possible overnights. Pay rate: $18.48/hr. Start date will begin when the right candidate is found. The position is being contracted through a temp agency, which we will connect the candidate with.
