Cheesemonger at Appleton Farms at Boston Public Market

by Marilene Rivas-Chavez on April 26, 2019

What We Do.

The Trustees of Reservations is one of Massachusetts’ largest non-profits and the oldest land trust in the nation. We are an organization with a fascinating past and an exciting future. Our places are open to all and we thrive by involving as many people as possible in what we do. Founded in 1891, by a group of visionary volunteers, we preserve, for public use and enjoyment, properties of exceptional scenic, historic, and ecological value in Massachusetts and work to protect special places across the state. We have helped protect more than 50,000 acres, including 26,000+ acres on 116 reservations that are all open to the public. We are a nonprofit conservation organization funded and supported entirely by our visitors, supporters, volunteers, and more than 50,000 members.

Join Us.

As a founding partner of the Boston Public Market, The Trustees operates a boutique cheese and specialty product retail outlet in the market, Appleton Farms at Boston Public Market. This shop is a premier location for Massachusetts dairy and cheese with emphasis on dairy products from one of The Trustees’ signature properties, Appleton Farms in Ipswich. Our most notable products are bottled milk and a selection of cheeses—including our popular triple cream (a soft ripened camembert-style cheese) and our alpine-style aged cheese. The booth also showcases products from over 20 additional cheesemakers and dairy farms from across the Commonwealth. These items are supplemented with other shelf-stable seasonal items from the region, including jams, charcuterie and crackers. Appleton Farms at BPM creates daily opportunities for residents and visitors of Boston to engage with, learn about, and join our Trustees statewide mission.

The Opportunity.

The cheesemonger works in The Appleton Farms shop at the Boston Public Market, which opened in July 2015 and sells cheese, yogurt, milk and accoutrements. In addition to supporting the shop’s dedicated volunteers, educating visitors about local dairy, and executing daily retail operations, the Shopkeeper is an ambassador for the Trustees in Boston. He/she will support the organization’s goal to connect people to land and nature through local food. This is a year-round position.

Schedule

The booth’s operating hours fall within the Boston Public Market’s (Monday-Thursday, 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM; Friday-Saturday 8:00AM-8:00PM; Sunday 10:00AM-6:00PM). Ability to work weekends and evenings required. There are multiple part time (22 hours/wk) positions available. The hours we are looking to fill are Sunday 9:30AM-6:30PM, Monday 3:00PM-8:30PM, Tuesday 3:00PM-8:30PM, Wednesday 3:00PM-8:30PM, Friday 3:00PM-8:30PM, Saturday 3:00PM-8:30PM
