Research Assistant (Technical, Report Automation, Programming)

Description:

The Office of Institutional Research has an opening for a technical Research Assistant with programming experience. The Research Assistant will support the maintenance, enhancement, and creation of custom tools used to automate reporting tasks in the Office of Institutional Research.
Duties:

  • Learn and support the existing R code used to automate reporting tasks in the Office of Institutional Research
  • Support the maintenance, enhancement, and creation of custom reporting tools
  • Develop approaches to improve and expand existing code base
  • Troubleshoot and document existing processes and enhancements
  • Assist with other programming, analysis, and reporting tasks, as needed

Start Date: June 2019
End Date: End of August 2019 or next academic year
Hours: 15-20
Compensation: $15 /hour depending upon experience

Requirements:

  • Full-time, matriculated undergraduate or graduate student having completed at least 1 semester of study
  • Computer programming experience (R or Python preferred)
  • Eagerness and ability to learn new tools and programming languages quickly
  • Experience with version control using GitHub
  • Strong documentation skills; ability to communicate and document workflow
  • Skills in data manipulation and quantitative analysis
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong R programming skills and experience with tidyverse R packages
  • Experience with R Shiny web applications
  • Familiarity with Visual Basic and writing macros
  • Familiarity with Qualtrics survey software
  • Strong MS Office formatting skills
