Connecticut River Conservancy Communications & Events Internship

Connecticut River Conservancy is the voice for the Connecticut River watershed, from source to sea. We collaborate with partners across four states to protect and advocate for your rivers and educate and engage communities. We bring people together to prevent pollution, improve habitat, and promote enjoyment of your river and its tributary streams. Healthy rivers support healthy economies.

As the CRC Communications & Events Intern you will have the opportunity to develop and expand your skills in traditional and digital communications, including social media marketing with diverse audiences across the Connecticut River watershed in NH, VT, MA & CT. You will also have the opportunity to support the outreach, promotion and, as needed, the execution of CRC events. This position supports inclusion, diversity and equity goals in an environmental nonprofit that supports environmental justice in the communities we serve. This internship is intended for a student or community member who is passionate about environmental issues, communications, and community engagement.

Position Description:

· Communicate CRC’s work through social media, digital newsletters, website, printed materials, and media outreach

· Support CRC’s events, programming, and advocacy work by developing marketing materials and social media campaigns for targeted audiences

· Develop member engagement tools through website, e-mail and social media that ensure members are connected to and can participate in the work of the organization

· Promote events, workshops and volunteer opportunities for the public and/or community scientist volunteers, including work to prepare for the annual Source to Sea Cleanup in September

· Share current environmental issues and challenges such as climate justice, hydropower relicensing, water quality, and other emerging concerns with the goal of educating, activating, and inspiring action.

Qualifications:

· Experience and/or ability to create and design content for e-newsletters, social media, and marketing campaigns; photography, video and/or creative design experience a plus

· Familiarity and experience managing social media platforms for an organization or business and/or ability and willingness to learn

· Highly organized and able to maintain a complex, multi-faceted communications strategy

· Ability to creatively problem-solve and be flexible in a changing environment, to set clear priorities, and manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.

· Strong verbal and written communication skills

· Experience and/or willingness to learn to operate basic website tools

· Experience with Microsoft Office, Teams, SharePoint, Asana project management software, Canva and/or ability and willingness to learn

· Ability to speak to a group of community members and partners

· Comfortable working with little supervision and as part of a team.

Hours:

Mid-June thru mid/late August, 10-12 weeks. Approx. 35 hours/week with schedule agreed upon by you and coordinating staff, including attendance at CRC events, schedule permitting. Work will be primarily remote with some in-person work possible at outdoor socially-distanced events or in CRC’s socially-distanced office in Greenfield, MA. Housing and transportation not provided.
