Foundation for Sustainable Development: International Internships

The FSD International Internship Program offers 9-52 week placements at any FSD site with one of our 300 Community Partners. It’s an intense, immersive program for students and young professionals looking to gain international development experience and training.

Visit: fsdinternational.org for complete program information

The program commonly acts as a catalyst for building a career in development, strengthening applications for graduate programs, or cultivating relationships with international communities and organizations. Internships run year-round, depending on your time schedule and the breadth of experience you wish to attain.

The structured program consists of several components that prepare and provide you with the support and guidance needed to implement successful projects in a sustainable manner. Your internship will involve home-stays, an on-site orientation, development training, grantwriting, and ultimately project implementation to ensure that the work makes a lasting impact on you and the community you serve.

Group Sessions/Midterm Retreat – You will meet bi-monthly with your group and FSD to share resources, develop project work, confront cultural issues, and process the internship experience. At the mid-point of your internship, you may participate in a group retreat that allows you to relax with your peers, remove yourself from the work, and travel outside of the community.

Project Report/Sustainability Plan – To summarize what you learned, accomplished, and experienced, you will submit a brief report for our project site and partner organizations. If you received a grant from FSD, you will explain how the grant was applied and detail the community/organizational resources to ensure project sustainability.

Programs are available year-round. Applications are now under review on a rolling basis for sessions beginning Late May, 2013 (C1) and early June, 2013 (C2). Regular deadline for C1 and C2 is April 1st, late application deadline is May 1st.

Conferences Internships Meeting Networking Travel Abroad

Join the SustainUS biodiversity negotiations delegation to CBD COP 11!

The SustainUS Agents of Change (AoC) program is now accepting applications to join the SustainUS youth delegation to the 11th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, which will be held in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India from October 8-19,  2012.

COP11 will help determine future international policy on biodiversity, and youth must make our voices heard. Young people from across the globe are organizing to voice our perspectives and hold the negotiations accountable to future generations. Countries at the negotiations must reach consensus and work together to protect the planet’s diversity and the health of interdependent human and ecological systems.

This is where we come in. The SustainUS Agents of Change delegation, comprised of youth leaders from various organizations and backgrounds, will have a unique opportunity to represent US youth at the COP. Delegates will work with each other and with international youth in advance of the conference to educate themselves and their communities, develop policy priorities, acquire skills in effective lobbying, and engage the broader youth community in action related to international biodiversity policy. As NGO representatives at the COP, delegates will work side-by-side with government delegates, leaders from international organizations, and fellow members of civil society to ensure a just and forward-looking outcome to the negotiations.

Applicants are required to be between the ages of 18 and 26 as of October 2012 and to either (a) be a US citizen or (b) have studied or worked in the US for more than six months. All application materials must be received by 5:00 pm EST on Sunday, July 1, 2012.
