Tufts School of Engineering would like to offer engineering seniors, graduate students, faculty, and administration the opportunity to be initiated into Order of the Engineer.

“The Order of the Engineer was initiated in the United States to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession, to bridge the gap between training and experience, and to present to the public a visible symbol identifying the engineer,” (http://www.order-of-the-engineer.org/)

When initiated into Order of the Engineer, you will recite the Obligation, an ethical oath analogous to the Hippocratic oath recited by doctors.

Upon becoming a member of Order of the Engineer, you will receive a certificate and be able to order a stainless steel ring to wear on the fifth finger of your writing hand. The ring acts as a reminder to act ethically when you draw plans, do calculations, or write code. Order of the Engineer has no financial commitment; there are no membership fees and thecost of the ring is only $10.

Individuals in an ABET accredited undergraduate or graduate engineering program and any licensed professional engineers are eligible to join the Order of the Engineers.

The Order of the Engineer Ceremony will be held on Friday, May 6 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm in Alumni Lounge. A reception with hors d’oeuvres will follow. Business casual attire is appropriate.

Please contact tuftsesc@gmail.com with questions or for additional information.
