Food For Free Seeking Seasonal Employee
Food For Free, a nonprofit that combats food waste and insecurity in Cambridge, MA, is looking to hire a temporary, part-time, Auction Manager for their annual Party Under the Harvest Moon fundraiser. The event, a major source of funding for their food rescue program, will be held on October 20th this year. The Auction Manager position will begin in mid-June and run through late October, with hours ranging from 5 hours a week in June to 30 hours during the week before the event.
The Auction Manager will be responsible for a variety of duties including item solicitation, committee and volunteer management, auction software management, design and creation of the auction program, day-of management of the event, and post-event wrap-up. Specific tasks will include (but are not limited to):
- Identify new donors, develop plan for solicitation, and close deals
- Follow up with previous donors
- Track and maintain progress towards the $20,000 income goal for the auction
- Recruit, train, and oversee volunteers in various tasks
- Use 501 Auctions auction management software to update all event information
- Help promote the auction and online bidding with emails and social media
- Manage and troubleshoot the 501 Auctions software on the day of the event
- Collect all item information and non-auction content in a timely manner for creation of the program
- Assist with the development of a high-quality program, supervising layout and proofreading
- Provide for a pleasant and smooth experience for party guests and bidders
- See to it that the Development staff receive all necessary auction-related information after the event
Qualifications and requirements include:
- Integrity, maturity and sound judgment
- Ability to communicate effectively, professionally, and warmly in varying circumstances
- Ability to appropriately handle confidential information
- Organization and attention to detail
- Time-management skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Familiarity with 501 Auctions software or the ability to learn it quickly
- Availability for occasional meetings in Cambridge
- Availability for a long work-day on October 20th
- Preference will be given to applicants with experience managing volunteers and with desktop publishing
