Workshop 3: Taking Action

Workshop 3: Taking Action

Overview

The 2013 Practical Visionaries Field Project Team has conceptualized this final workshop in the Food Economy Curriculum series as a transition into planning for community action towards a more community-based food economy. We expect that this workshop will be dependent on workshops 1 and 2 for focusing on specific goals for action, but community members who haven’t participated in the earlier workshops are still able to participate in the action planning.
While the Field Project Team is excited to develop Workshop 3 materials and contribute to workshop efforts in Practical Visionaries 2013 summer work, we also see this stage of popular education as the point in which we turn workshop development and facilitation over to our Steering Committee and their community members. ACE, DSNI, SCC, and other community organizations using the “Cultivate Your Food Economy” materials, have more experience in developing and leading the action piece of the popular education process. In our conversations with the Practical Visionaries Steering Committee members, we saw this as an important transition in the researcher-practitioner relationship.
In discussing the next steps for Workshop 3, we would like to emphasize that the Practical Visionaries Field Project, Workshop, and other Practical Visionaries projects and partners plan to continue work on the “Cultivate Your Food Economy” efforts. As ACE, DSNI, and SCC use this website, map resources, and other tools developed by the 2013 Field Project Team, the Practical Visionaries group will remain a source of support for their efforts in building community action towards a stronger food economy.

Workshop 3 Goals

Through this workshop, participants will be able to:
  1. Identify areas of improvement within their food economy.
  2. Identify action steps they can take to improve their community food economy.
