Logistics for the conference
How to get to the area
Davis Square is a T station on the Red Line, and the morning talks are literally next door to the station.
Airport to Davis Square: You can take taxi or lyft from the airport to Davis in about 20 minutes if no traffic. By public transit, take the Silver Line to South Station and change to the Red.
How to get to the talks, and parking options
The morning talks will be in Somerville Theatre, right in Davis Square, next to the Davis T station. Parking around Davis Square is metered; depending on the street, the meters will allow you to park from one to four hours. There are also several public parking lots with three-hour meters. Somerville parking is very rigorously enforced.
The afternoon talks and evening sessions will be at Tufts; the online conference schedule lists the specific locations, with links to a Google map for each. The campus is a 15-to-20 minute walk from Davis Square, or you can take the 94/96 bus. Your best bets for long-term public parking around Tufts are the unlimited meters on Boston Ave (between Broadway and Winthrop).
Another option is to park at the Alewife Station Parking Garage ($7 daily rate), which is one T stop away. (Note: locals say that the garage usually fills up by 10 am on weekdays.)
Specialized track trainees can ask the organizers for a campus parking permit. Please do so in advance!
The exact times and locations of all events are available on the conference schedule.
Meals and happy hours
You’re mostly on your own for meals—Davis Square has great options! We’ve built a long lunch into the schedule.
Some food options we like:
- Sugidama – sushi plus
- Posto – wood-fired pizza
- Meju – Korean and cocktails
- Tu Y Yo – interior Mexican
- Painted Burro – Mex and cocktails
- Redbones – serious BBQ
- Rosebud Diner – foodie diner food
- Saloon – gastropub
- Dave’s Fresh Pasta for sandwiches (lunch only)
- Flatbread pizza (plus they have candlepin bowling!)
- Amsterdam falafel
- Diesel Cafe
- Five Horses
- Boston Burger Company
The afternoon sessions have 3-5pm time blocks but may well let out a bit early. The evening panels are at 7:30pm. Each of Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, there will be happy hours from 5-6 at Orleans Restaurant in Davis Square. (We’re delighted that Tuesday’s happy hour is sponsored by the fair redistricting group OneVirginia2021.) We’ve started off the happy hours with some pre-ordered snacks, and there’s a cash bar.
Last-minute lodging options
We may have a few dorm rooms left on campus at $63/night. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to inquire.
