Is it just us or have a lot of books been making appearances on the big screen lately? Rolling Stone just released their 2017 Summer Movie Preview and we couldn’t help but notice that one of Stephen King’s books made the list. On August 4, 2017,  The Dark Tower, the first installment of an adaptation of King’s  Dark Tower series will hit theaters (Check out the trailer on Youtube). The film is technically a continuation of the novels, but will draw on elements from the The Gunslinger, the first book in the series. Borrow a copy from us and read the book first!

Interested in other movies that were books written by Stephen King? Check out his website for a complete movie list from A to Z.

A very warm welcome to all of our new students! We hope that classes are off to a good start and that you are making yourself comfortable and getting into a good routine. The library can answer any questions you might still have so just stop by the desk and ask!

If orientation seems like a blur, here are some of the more salient points about the library:

  • You can check things out! Laptops, phone chargers, skulls, models, and more! Oh, and books of course.
  • Librarians are here to help! And each school has their own liaison librarian- do you know who your librarian is?
  • The library has Open Workshops throughout the school year so you can learn new skills.
  • The library also hosts fun events, just so you can have fun.
  • Printing is done by adding money (Jumbocash) to your student I.D. card. $0.10/page B&W, $0.15/page double-sided, and $0.30/page for color.
  • The IT desk can help with many tech issues you might have and can install software on your computer.
  • Ask away! That’s what we at the library service desk are here for.

We look forward to seeing you around the library!

USMLEasy Black

Calling all 2nd year medical students!  This is a reminder that next week on November 9th there will be a “Step One Fair” that will help you start preparing for the first step of the medical boards.  If you want to learn more about USMLE Easy, there will be a representative from McGraw-Hill attending, as well as a few friendly librarians, who can fill you in on the resources the library has to help you prepare for the first board exam.

See you there!

BrowZineLogo-FINAL COLOR

Have you heard about BrowZine yet?  Here’s a little background info: BrowZine is a mobile app designed for Apple and Android devices.  It has a great interface that is designed for browsing journals that the library has access to, and it also allows you to download articles straight to your device!

If you prefer to use your desktop or laptop computer for this kind of thing, BrowZine has just released a version designed for your web browser!  Check it out at www.browzine.com.  If you’re on campus, you’ll be brought straight into the BrowZine library.  If you’re at home, select Tufts University and login with your normal Tufts username and password to start using BrowZine on your computer.

Don’t have BrowZine on your phone or tablet yet?  Click here to get started!

GMMCover

It doesn’t seem too long ago the last time we shared what new books the library had acquired…but since then, we’ve added even more to our collection! There’s not much in the way of new leisure reading books this time around, but rest assured–we’ve got some more fiction titles coming soon. In the meantime…

Did we miss something? If there’s a book out there that the library doesn’t own, and you think we should, let us know!

The library is offering several different open workshops this semester on topics like PubMed, Point-of-Care/Mobile Resources, and Open Access Week, just to name a few! These open workshops are a great opportunity to learn about a new research tool or to brush up on your research skills. Take a look at the HHSL Open Workshops Calendar for dates, descriptions, and to register for one (or many!) workshops. Sessions are held most Wednesdays and Thursdays in Sackler 510 at 12pm.

See you there!

We would like to highlight that August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM)!  This was established to encourage people of all ages to protect their health by being vaccinated against infectious diseases.  The CDC offers information and Toolkits to help you out.  You can also check out this full 2015 Toolkit put out by the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion!
