Tufts Alum Crowned Miss Black Massachusetts


Claire Elise Johnson (A’05), a native of Cape Cod, was recently crowned Miss Black Massachusetts. Johnson, who studied clinical psychology as an undergraduate at Tufts, holds a masters in social work from Boston College and studied dance at the Ailey School in New York City.

As Miss Black Massachusetts, Johnson will devote a year to service by promoting her Generation ACTIVE (Accompanying Children Towards Increased Vitality via Exercise) initiative, a program that seeks to promote healthy lifestyles among youth and their families. In addition, she will be acting as a spokeswoman for The Heart Truth: A Campaign For Women About Heart Disease, as well as for the Greater Boston Sickle Cell Disease Association.

Johnson will also go on to compete for the national title of Miss Black USA in Washington D.C. on Aug. 9. She’ll be blogging, tweeting and updating her Facebook page along the ride.
