Hamlet, the Hip-Hopera

3Ps, Bare Bodkin, and Torn Ticket II present “Hamlet, the Hip-Hopera” on Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m in Balch Arena Theater. The musical is directed by John-Michael Sequeira, A12, and written/musical directed by Tucker Delaney-Winn, A12.

“Hamlet, the Hip-Hopera” is a hip-hop musical of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. It contains a script that mixes contemporary and Elizabethan language. The crux of the play is that the most famous, iconic scenes from Hamlet have been transformed into raps, rap battles and spoken-word poetry. Humor has been added, but ultimately the story stays true to the spirit of the original play.
