Tufts 4 the Cure

Tufts 4 the Cure works to advance the scientific research of organizations focused on combating AIDS, cancer, and other critical challenges. By downloading the World Community Grid screensaver, computers involved in scientific research can utilize your computer’s idle time to quicken their pace of research.

Tufts students recently shot a creative promotional video for the student body. Watch it below:

Tufts 4 the Cure

Did you know that your laptop could be saving the world in its sleep? Thanks to a group called Tufts 4 the Cure formed in 2010, your screensaver can now do a lot more than just save your screen. When a small program is downloaded onto the computer, the laptop will perform scientific calculations during idle time. The World Community Grid, the company that developed the software, explains the project by saying:

When idle, your computer will request data on a specific project from World Community Grid’s server. It will then perform computations on this data, send the results back to the server, and ask the server for a new piece of work. Each computation that your computer performs provides scientists with critical information that accelerates the pace of research!”
