The Great Wave
One hundred different 7th graders, from four different sections created this replica of “The Great Wave” as a way to respond to, and generate funds for tsunami relief after events in Japan on March 11, 2011. Each student was given a postcard sized piece of paper and a small picture of the segment they were each responsible for representing. The pieces where then put together to create this beautiful work which was publicly auctioned. Along with civic engagement, students learned about color relationships, composition, and scale.
Road Signs: Students discussed the use of simple sillhouated images to visually convey important information in shared spaces. They then created road sings that designated their own “zone”. Party zone, landmine zone, music zone, skating zone, swimming zone were among the isnpirations.
