On September 12, I was honored to give the first presentation of the 2011/2012 STEM Education Lecture Series here at Tufts! My talk was called Speaking Mathematically: Exploring How Students Align Mathematical Language with Narrative Description.
I focused on the role that narrative modes of reasoning play in prompting students to adopt increasingly mathematical language while making sense of simulations they constructed within the DeltaTick environment. The series will include a number of exciting speakers this year, and many of the presentations will be posted so you can check them out even if you’re not able to make it. Happy start of the 2011/2012 year.
