Associate Curator of Education [Morris Museum of Art]

Associate Curator of Education

The Morris Museum of Art in Augusta, Georgia, seeks an individual to develop and implement programs for regional PK-12 school audiences. Specific program areas include, but are not limited to, student tours, activities, and outreach; school-based, after-school, and summer programming; pre-service and in-service teacher workshops; speaker services; and volunteer and docent programs. Directly supervises contract staff and volunteers. Assists in the development and management of other educational programming as needed.

Program Coordination:
*   Works to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
*   Plans and implements PK-12 school programs in consultation with the Curator of Education, local school district staff, education advisory panels, and other community stakeholders as appropriate.
*   Produces written materials such as resource packages and instructional units for use by PK-12 teachers and college/university professors that link the museum’s collection and exhibitions to the school curriculum.
*   Conducts audience research and evaluates program effectiveness. Maintains and analyzes statistics on program attendance and cost. Writes reports as requested.
*   Assists with the development and management of tours for adults and post-secondary school students.
*   If the Visitor Services Manager is not available, schedules tour, outreach, and speaker service presentations, and maintains the museum’s front desk.
*   Conducts other educational programming as required.

Communication and Promotion to Audiences:
*   Disseminates information regarding school programs as appropriate to potential faculty, teachers, and school administrators at the regional level.
*   Ensures that district administrators and other key stakeholders remain informed and involved. Forms education advisory panels in order to foster communication between the museum and this audience. Plans agendas for and runs meetings with these groups to create dialogue and learn more about these audiences’ perceptions and uses of the museum. Works with advisory panels to develop and pilot new programs and written resources.
*   Conceives of and writes text for museum publications as required.
*   Organizes related promotional activities and events that specifically target PK-12 school audiences, including (but not limited to) teacher receptions and PTA outreach presentations.

Program Administration:
*   Summarizes activity progress and results in quarterly reports.
*   Is responsible for education services budgets, including initial development in consultation with the Curator of Education, and the monitoring of expenditures.
*   Assists with preparation of funding applications as required.

Staff Management:
*   Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates the performance of education services contract staff and volunteers.

Volunteer/Docent Program:
*   Assists with the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of the museum’s volunteer docents.
*   If the Visitor Services Manager is not available, schedules docents to deliver tours, outreach, and speaker service presentations.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
*   Master’s degree in art education, museum education, or art history.
*   Minimum of three years working experience in museum education.
*   Proficient in creating, implementing, evaluating, and teaching educational programs in both classroom and museum settings for a variety of ages and learning abilities
*   Knowledgeable in learning theories and curriculum development for a variety of ages and learning abilities
*   Excellent writing, speaking, organizational, and interpersonal skills
*   Computer literacy, particularly in word processing, spreadsheets, and desktop publishing
*   Ability to multitask and work on multiple projects simultaneously
*   State teacher certification is preferred
*   Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel occasionally
*   Salary is commensurate with experience

Special Programs Coordinator, Museum Programs Leader [Glazer Children’s Museum]

F/T Special Programs Coordinator

Primary responsibility is the development, coordination and delivery of fee -based educational programs that occur in the Museum and during outreach activities. Works with the Director of Education and Education team to create programs that have strong educational value and relevance to the museum while being fun, creative and interesting.  Works to develop appropriate systems for delivery and coordination of all fee based educational programs. Responsible for training employees and volunteers on program delivery. Responsible for recruiting, tasking and supervising such programs staff.  Will serve as part of programming and event development teams. Schedule will be Thursday – Monday.

F/T Museum Program Leader

Primary responsibility is the delivery of educational and entertaining programs that occur in the Museum and during outreach activities. Works with the Director of Education and Educator to create programs that have strong educational value while being fun, creative and interesting. Responsible for training part time employees on program delivery.  Will serve as part of programming and event development teams. Schedule will be Tuesday-Saturday.

The Board of Trustees of the Brick Store Museum, a 75-year-old, AAM-accredited historical and decorative arts museum located in a complex of five 19th-century buildings in Kennebunk, Maine’s National Register Historic District, is seeking a full-time executive director to lead the institution in its strategic initiatives and to build upon its solid foundation as a respected community and historical resource. The successful candidate will be a hands-on, multifaceted leader able to articulate the Museum’s mission, maintain and develop stakeholder relationships, supervise a small staff and corps of volunteers, and creatively promote the Museum as a destination heritage tourism attraction in southern coastal Maine.

Job Requirements:

  1. M.A. degree in museum studies or closely related field, although a strong combination of curatorial, programming, managerial and nonprofit fundraising experience will also be considered.
  2. Ability to effectively manage the day-to-day operations of the Museum, its budget and revenue streams, collections, facilities, staff, exhibit preparation and outreach activities, as well as the Museum’s brand identity across myriad platforms, inclusive of press, print, web and social media.
  3. Successful fundraising abilities, with a talent for building trusted relationships across a broad range of constituencies.
  4. Solid track record of utilizing creative and innovative means for reaching new audiences and developing engaging programs and exhibitions.
  5. Proven ability to work collaboratively with a Board of Trustees, including its standing and ad hoc committees, on short and long-term goals.
  6. Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills, with enthusiasm and a sense of humor.
  7. Demonstrated general knowledge of history and the standards and management practices within the museum profession. Experience with smaller institutions and Maine history considered beneficial.
