The Senior Professional Development and Curriculum Associate for the Engineering is Elementary (EiE) project is an experienced educator and professional development provider who has had experience in both creating effective learning experiences for teachers and designing high-quality curricular materials (print and media) for students. S/he will develop and offer introductory EiE and integrative STEM workshops for teachers as well as create materials to support other teacher educators, as well as students. S/he will develop and meet timelines, review and revise draft materials, and contribute to the brainstorming and development of new materials. S/he is also expected to network both inside the Museum and across the state and nation, generate new ideas for curricular resources, make presentations, and help with research and evaluation efforts. Finally s/he is expected to contribute to a productive environment that functions as a healthy and supportive team.


– Work with Engineering is Elementary project that involves about 10 programs/initiatives, with 14 staff, with spending approximately $2M/year.

– The EiE program currently has reached over 1.7M students and 22,000 teachers in all 50 states.


1. Work with the EiE Project Manager and the PD Manager to create professional development and curricular resources. S/he will take leadership on designing PD resource materials and/or curriculum materials, develop plans and timelines for resource development, engage in materials testing, and critique and revise existing products. Work with the EiE Content Development, Research and Assessment, and Professional Development teams to produce exceptional products and services.

2. Design and offer professional development sessions and materials .

3. Create materials, products, and services that are conceptually aligned with the EiE philosophy. Produce finished products that meet the goals of the EiE project.

4. Lead and nurture productive, supportive project teams. Mentor less experienced staff members.

5. Disseminate the EiE program and its products through presentations, written documents, workshops, and national conferences to reach potential clients, prospective funders, possible partners, interested educators, and others.

6. Help connect various initiatives of the project so that content and pedagogical strategies remain consistent and connected. These include professional development workshops and resources, additional multimedia (web, video) resources, exhibition resources, research and evaluation, and supplementary curricular resources.

7. Help cultivate relationships with implementation partners, new professional development partners, new “expert” reviewers and organizational partners, and new teacher and school district partners.

8. Manage and cultivate relationships inside the Museum with people and projects that might inform or collaborate with the EiE project. This includes other curricular programs as well as programs and exhibitions.

9. Be actively engaged in generating new ideas for resources and help write grant proposals.

10. Perform other work-related duties as required by Manager.


Grant-funded, full-time. Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week.


Manager, Engineering is Elementary (EiE)


– Bachelor’s of Science or Arts and additional course work preferred.

– 3 to 5 years of experience preferred.

– Demonstrated project management skills and organization.

– Understanding of engineering and science concepts. Also, must have understanding of effective science pedagogy. Ability to communicate these concepts to teachers as well as put elementary teachers at ease through strong presentation and teaching skills.

– Experience teaching students and/or teachers in formal or informal settings.

– Experience teaching in an elementary school classroom preferred.

– Knowledge of curriculum, science, teachers, districts, and the K-12 educational system.

– Experience writing curricular materials or lesson plans.

– Strong collaborative skills.

– Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

– Ability to professionally represent the project and Museum and to form and manage partnerships.

– Ability to take initiative and work independently.

– Very good data management skills and facility with computers .

– Close attention to detail and timelines.

– Ability to work as a team member, mentor others, and assume leadership.

– Ability to travel an average of 3-5 days a month is required. This is non-negotiable.
