Collections Associates [Museum Village]

Two-year paid positions as Collections Associates offered for a 2011-2013 IMLS Museums for America grant implementation at Museum Village in Monroe, NY to begin as soon as October 1. As a staff
member, duties would involve research and cataloguing of a large collection of 19th century American material culture at a living history museum. Duties would also entail handling of objects. The strong candidate would be a graduate of a museum studies program with some knowledge of and experience with collections management. Education might also include American Studies/ Public History/Museum Education. Knowledge of Past Perfect database software is preferred, but training is available. This 30
plus hours a week position is offered to the individual who plans to use this experience to launch/further a career as a museum profession. The museum is located next to a Park & Ride in the

Public Programs Coordinator [Florida Museum of Natural History]

*Position Summary*

The Florida Museum of Natural History, University of Florida, is
seeking a Public Programs Coordinator. This full-time position is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of all free and fee-based public programs offered for youth, families, and adults. In addition, this position coordinates community outreach, develops and monitors program budgets, and supervises paid and volunteer staff.

The Florida Museum is located in north central Florida, a beautiful
area with abundant nature and cultural opportunities. The Museum has more than 30 million scientific specimens and though its primary focus is on Florida, the southeastern United States and the Caribbean, the collections and research span the globe. The University of Florida is the state¹s oldest and most comprehensive university with a long history of established programs in international education, research and service.

*Preferred Qualifications*

Masters degree, or its equivalent in work experience, in education,
social science or science, and at least 5 years work experience in a museum or comparable institution. Requires previous experience managing informal education programs, understanding of best practices and current trends in informal science education, and excellent communication, writing and computing skills.

Education Programs Manager [Florida Museum of Natural History]

Education Programs Manager-Search Extended!

The Morris Museum of Art in Augusta, Georgia, seeks an individual to
develop and implement programs for regional PK-12 school audiences.
Specific program areas include, but are not limited to, student tours,
activities, and outreach; school-based, after-school, and summer
programming; pre-service and in-service teacher workshops; speaker
services; and volunteer and docent programs. Directly supervises
contract staff and volunteers. Assists in the development and management of other educational programming as needed.

The position requires a Master’s degree in art education, museum
education, or art history, a preferred minimum of three years working
experience in museum education, proficiency in creating, implementing, evaluating, and teaching educational programs in both classroom and museum settings, and a thorough knowledge of learning theories and curriculum development for a variety of ages and learning abilities. Salary is commensurate with experience.

The Senior Manager of Tour and Explainer Programs is a key member of the
Volunteer Staff Team, which manages over 1000 Museum volunteers.
The position is directly responsible for teaching, training, managing and
evaluating approximately 250 volunteers who are Tour Guides, Earth and Space
Explainers, Fossil Explainers and Explainers in special exhibitions.
Responsibilities include:
– Schedule public and special tours
– Schedule Explainers in Fossil halls, Earth and Space halls and special
exhibitions
– Oversee the Science Sense Program for blind and visually impaired visitors
– Train and prepare volunteers to work in special exhibitions twice a year
– Recruit volunteers for special events
– Lead special projects, as needed
Other responsibilities include:
– Managing volunteer office staff and procedures
– Organize Monthly Volunteer Enrichment lecture Series
– Assist with administrative badging process of new volunteers
– Ongoing communication with all volunteers
Required Qualifications:
– Must be able to work and multi-task in high traffic, fast-paced
environment
– Must be flexible and be able to problem solve in real time
– Patience and people skills are a necessity
– Professionalism is needed for interaction with all levels of museum staff,
volunteers and visitors on a daily basis
– Demonstrated ability to teach adults in an informal learning setting
– Leadership skills and supervisory experience
– 3-5 years experience working in a museum environment
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in anthropology,
education, museum studies, or a natural science field. A master’s degree (or
working towards it) is strongly preferred.

Digital Archives Assistant [Cambridge Historical Society]

Digital Archives Assistant

The Cambridge Historical Society seeks a highly organized and self-motivated individual to fill the part-time grant-funded position of Digital Archives Assistant through July 2012. The successful candidate will be responsible for the digitization and web presentation of two small archives collections containing manuscript and photographic materials related to two pioneering Cambridge women, Lois Lilley Howe and Sarah Bull.

Duties include:

Cataloging photographic materials
Digitizing fragile collection material
Preparation of image files for archiving and for web display

Demonstrated experience in digital imaging, technical photography, digital libraries, and web design required. Experience working with web-based CMS a plus. Those enrolled in Library Science or Museum Studies programs are encouraged to apply.

Successful candidate will report to the executive director and work closely with the archivist.

16 hours a week. Somewhat flexible schedule.
