*Position Description
ASSOCIATE EDUCATOR, HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS*

The Associate Educator is responsible for executing programs designed for
high school teachers and students, including existing partnerships with New
York City public high schools, professional development for teachers, and
curriculum development.

The Associate Educator coordinates the Global Classroom (G:Class), New
Museum’s primary high school program, including exhibition tours, classroom
visits, seminars with artists, curriculum development, and professional
development for teachers, and also manages the online site and resources of
G:Class(gclass.org).

The position is 40 hours/week, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday through
Friday. Occasional evenings and weekends required. Reports directly to the
Associate Director of Education and works closely with the Coordinator of
Tours and Family Programs and other departmental staff on select programs.

*RESPONSIBILITIES*
* Maintain relationships with New York City public high schools, arts
organizations, and community-based organizations, including planning,
teaching, curriculum development with teachers, evaluation, and
documentation. Assist in cultivating new partner relationships.
* Manage G:Class website, including creating and uploading content such as
lesson plans, student projects, images, audio, and video clips and
overseeing site’s expansion and development
* Organize and assist in facilitation of professional development workshops
for teachers and artist residency projects
* Develop and maintain summer G:Class programs, including a multi-week
intensive internship program for high school students
* Maintain the G:Class calendar and budget including preparing/filing check
requests and petty cash receipts, reconciling weekly expenses, assist with
documentation and evaluation of the program, and providing regular budget
updates for the department
* Help foster use and promotion of New Museum’s forthcoming publication,
Rethinking Contemporary Art and Multicultural Education, an educational
resource guide that focuses on the role of contemporary art in educational
pedagogy
* Participate in other departmental programs and duties, including
involvement in Museum as Hub, an education-based laboratory for curatorial
ideas, and assisting in related artist residencies
* Work with freelance educators on the implementation of programs as needed
* Assist with public promotion of G:Class and dissemination of related
marketing materials
* Assist in preparation of materials on G:Class for development purposes
* Assist the Coordinator of Tours and Family Programs in the development of
our Annual Block Party and ongoing training and planning sessions for
teaching staff, including freelance educators, docents, and Security staff
* Report to the Director and Curator of Education and Public Programs on
program activities and development as needed

*QUALIFICATIONS*

The qualified candidate will have a minimum of 2 years related experience
with a youth- and arts-related field; experience creating arts-related
curricula for high school students, conducting professional development for
teachers, and teaching in the classroom and museum galleries. Strong
knowledge of contemporary art history and current issues in contemporary
art required. The education staff of the New Museum comprises a unique,
hybrid department with curatorial and traditional education interests and
programs. She/he must have strong oral and written communications skills;
knowledge of current museum education practice; proficiency with Microsoft
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, basic photo editing; and be highly organized and
self-directed. An M.A. in Arts Education, Museum Studies, Art History, or
related field preferred.
