Digital Media Developer [Penn Museum]

DIGITAL MEDIA DEVELOPER, PENN MUSEUM

The Digital Media Developer (DMD) will assist the Digital Media Center
at the Penn Museum in maintaining the Museum’s website, blog,
various WordPress sites, and social media channels. The DMD will create
graphics and help compose copy for the website as needed. The DMD will
also act as co-curator for the Museum’s blog and social media channels,
scouring the web and other media for content opportunities to compose
relevant and topical posts. The DMD will also help content contributors
across the Museum manage their posts. The DMD will document (with
photography, video, blog posts and other media) the activities around
the Museum’s event and exhibition programming to compose content for our
social media channels.

The DMD will be responsible for updating dynamic content on penn.museum
and aiding in the design and development of various new functionalities
for the website; e.g. interactive games, modules and widgets, etc.
The DMD will have experience developing within a content management
system, preferably a Joomla and WordPress environment. The DMD will also
help oversee the production of educational and promotional video as
developed by DMD staff. The DMD will have some graphic design experience
and help produce, edit and post photography of events and programs as
well as develop graphics for the web and other channels. The DMD will
possess excellent writing and communication skills. The DMD will also
have some demonstrated experience working with newsletter mailing lists
and provide assistance with the design and dissemination of our various
lists as needed.

Desired skills include advanced knowledge of web design and development
preferably in a Joomla and WordPress environments, basic knowledge of
Adobe Creative Suite, demonstrated experience working with digital media
and familiarity with social media strategies. At least one year
experience in video production is desired: basic knowledge of Final Cut
Pro. At least three years experience in web development is preferred.
Interest in archaeology, anthropology, museum studies, art/art history
strongly preferred. Standards compliant HTML required. CSS and PHP
preferred.

The National Museum of American Jewish History’s mission is to present

educational programs and experiences that preserve, explore and

celebrate the history of Jews in America. Our purpose is to connect Jews

The Museum Educator, Jewish School and Family Programs, is a new
position in a young and rapidly growing department. Its major focus will
be on the development and implementation of creative, unique, engaging
and academically-sound programs for Jewish visitors, particularly Jewish
schools.

Responsibilities Include:

Create on-site, as well as pre- and post-visit, activities for classes
from Jewish Day Schools, congregational and supplementary Schools. Train
docents to implement these activities. Observe school visits and lead
evaluations to hone the curricula and docent performances.

Conduct training workshops for teachers from Jewish schools.

Assist in outreach to Jewish schools to increase number and quality of
class visits.

Create gallery activities and workshops for families, targeted to Jewish
holidays.

Assist in planning and implementation of adult courses.

Assist in planning of long-distance learning via web applications and
other media.

Experience:

MA in Education, Jewish studies, Art History, Museum Studies or a
related field.
5+ years in Museum Education or comparable experience creating
object-based curriculum.
Experience creating and leading educational activities for students K-12
a must; experience with adult and senior education a plus. Informal
education experience also a plus.
Knowledge of Judaism and Jewish history
Knowledge of greater Philadelphia Jewish day school community preferred.
Reading knowledge of Hebrew.
Command of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint.

Command of desk-publishing software a plus.

The Administrator, Department of Education, is a new position in a
young, busy and rapidly growing department. Its major focus will be on
providing support and coordination for the department’s many activities
and for managing and expanding the Museum’s outreach to schools in the
Philadelphia School System, the tri-state area and beyond.

Responsibilities Include:

Manage school outreach, playing principal role in reaching new schools,
maintaining communication with growing database of teachers,
coordinating orientation events, overseeing “teachers sharing” website
and writing/editing newsletters.

Coordinate teacher trainings on new curricula, changing exhibitions and
utilizing Museum resources.

Schedule and coordinate activities for alumni of teachers who have gone
through training at the Museum and develop special activities for them.

Oversee assignment of docents for tours, school visits and highlight talks.

Maintain statistics on visiting classes for reports and grants. Assist
with writing of grant narratives.

Represent the Museum in the community at education-related, outreach
events, as requested.

docents’ monthly sessions.

Handle the Education Department’s general correspondence, phone requests

Experience:

Undergraduate Degree in Education, History, Jewish Studies or related field.

At least 5 years of relevant experience in similar organization.

Mastery of a variety of computer programs, including Microsoft Word,

The Curatorial Assistant will assist with exhibition research, maintenance of documents and
images and support of the overall exhibition process by working with department colleagues,
other ICA departments and exhibiting artists.

Job Responsibilities:
• Assist the Chief Curator with a range of research and administrative tasks.
• For exhibition and collection development: research artists and works of art; coordinate and
correspond with artists and galleries; coordinate hotel and travel arrangements.
• Assist curators with catalogue and brochure production, including gathering of images,
securing rights and reproductions, and maintaining project schedules.

Additional requirements of the position:
The Curatorial Assistant will demonstrate a sound knowledge of art history, excellent writing
ability, effective public presentation skills, and capacity to work collaboratively with colleagues
in all departments as well as an interest in communicating to diverse audiences about
contemporary art. In addition, the Curatorial Assistant will be able to work flexible hours when
required and have the ability to work concurrently on multiple projects.

The APS Museum seeks a highly creative and energetic museum educator to
join its small, versatile staff.  The museum educator proposes and
implements innovative and dynamic interdisciplinary public programs for APS
Museum audiences and develops both curriculum guides and workshops for
teachers and occasional high school student outreach programs. S/he also
oversees visitor services, administers the museum guide program, and
interprets exhibitions for families, students, and adults. This position
reports to the Associate Director.

The APS Museum, located next door to Independence Hall in Philadelphia¹s
historic district, organizes exhibitions that explore the intersections of
history, art, and science and also commissions contemporary artistic
projects that interpret the exhibition themes and relate them to relevant
issues today.

*Duties*

·         Collaborate in developing interdisciplinary public programs in
conjunction with exhibitions and commissioned artist projects; implement
all public programs. Collaborate with other Philadelphia-area institutions.

·         Interpret and teach exhibition content to diverse audiences
through printed materials, family activities, and guided tours.

·         Develop and implement programs and workshops for educational
outreach; develop  curriculum guides and professional development workshops
for educators.

·         Manage visitor services and day-to-day gallery operations.
Oversee volunteer coordinator and graduate student interns; manage, hire,
and train museum guides.

·         Help evaluate public and educational programs, assist in grant
writing and reporting, and in on-the-ground and online marketing, including
social media.

*Job Requirements and Ideal Qualifications: *M.A. or Ph.D. in
humanities-based field or museum education; at least 2 years experience in
museum education or equivalent; familiarity with museum education best
practices and methodologies; knowledge of history of science or history of
art, especially 18th-19th centuries; ability to make interdisciplinary
connections among history, art, and science; excellent public speaking and
writing skills; strong interpersonal skills; ability to work
collaboratively as part of a small staff; strong social media and website
skills. Availability to work evenings and weekends.
