Curator of Education and Community Outreach, Abu Dhabi Project

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation (SRGF) is seeking a Curator of
Education and Community Outreach, Abu Dhabi Project. As a senior member of
the Abu Dhabi Project team, the Curator of Education and Community Outreach
will work in close alignment with the SRGF Education, Curatorial and Senior
representative in Abu Dhabi and the Education and Project Management Units
of the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority and others as appropriate to
research, develop, and pilot/implement audience and education strategies
and programs and to support in preparation for the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi
Museum’s opening in 2017 and beyond.

culture, primarily of the modern and contemporary periods.  SRGF realizes

*Specific Roles and Responsibilities:*

*Pre-opening Research, Development and Programming*

– Work with the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Project Curatorial team, SRGF
Education and the Education and Project Management Units of the Abu Dhabi
Tourism & Culture Authority as well as other key stakeholders (as
identified) to develop the pre/post-opening education and implementation
plan for the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Museum
– Contribute to research, conceptualization, planning, execution and
documentation of public programs that contextualize the activities of the
future Museum including the building of the collection, commissions and
temporary exhibitions
– Contribute to the development of internal think tanks and public
discussion forums around key themes relevant to the future Museum;
provide
coordinating assistance as needed
– Develop, implement and manage a mutually agreed upon working process
with Education Unit of the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority for
ongoing development and planning procedures to advance the education
agenda
for the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Museum including monthly meetings,
workshops,
and upcoming site visits and program observations in New York

*Audience Research and Interpretation *

– Develop in conjunction with SRGF marketing, project management and
external affairs education-related audience research initiatives; provide
management assistance with implementation and follow-up reporting
– Work with the SRGF Education and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Project curators
to

1. Research and develop interpretative education-based frameworks for
the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi
2. collection
3. Research, develop and conceptualize content for the Museum’s
Education center, including its satellite Education spaces *Community *
4. *Outreach*
5.
– Develop and implement a strategic plan for establishing regional
cultural, community and Education  (K-12 and Higher Education)
networks;
act as senior education representative for community, cultural and
education-related functions in Abu Dhabi.
– Liaise and consult with SRGF Senior Representative in Abu Dhabi on
all in-country activities, local, and regional community engagement
and
partner relationships.

*Publications*
* Advise on and contribute to the development of pre-opening education /
interpretative material  and other publishing initiatives agreed by SRGF
for focus groups or other in terms of content and editorial frameworks

*General Administrative*
– Contribute to the development of an evaluation strategy, tools and
approach for all pre- and post-opening education, outreach and
interpretative initiatives for the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Museum,
– Assist with coordinating correspondence and contracts, compilation
of pertinent materials for Education and Audience-research related
Focus
Groups and public program development, and technical and general
requirements for events such as image and bibliographic research.
– Interface with the Marketing and Public Relations departments of
SRGF and Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority to create and implement
a
marketing plan to ensure proper promotion for education and outreach,
including public program activity, where relevant
– Maintain statistical information, general budgetary, quarterly and
annual report documents, and handle other administrative accounting as
needed.

*Qualifications and Requirements:*
– Graduate degree or equivalent in art history, museum studies, art
education, arts administration, cultural studies, or related field or
MFA
in studio art
– Excellent knowledge of contemporary art history and the
international art world
– Minimum 5-7 years experience with adult and community outreach
programs, audience research and evaluation in comparable cultural or
educational institutions
– Excellent organizational, writing, editing, verbal, interpersonal,
and administrative skills; proven ability to be multi-task oriented
– Proficiency with computer technology and communications
– Prior supervisory experience and proven skills in international
diplomacy
– Arabic language fluency essential
– Ability to spend significant periods of time in Abu Dhabi
