Director of Education – The Anne Frank Center

The Anne Frank Center USA (AFC), a museum and educational center located in
downtown Manhattan, is seeking a full-time Director of Education. Founded by
Otto Frank in 1977 to advance his daughter’s legacy and teach the lessons of
her time to later generations, The Anne Frank Center works within a
contemporary context to teach the consequences of intolerance and the need
to identify and challenge prejudice.

Job Summary: The Director of Education is responsible for development and
implementation of in-school education programs for grades 4-12, as well as a
variety of family and public programs that take place at the AFC. This
position regularly teaches school programs; hosts workshops for K-12
educators; develops partnerships with schools and cultural organizations;
and works closely with development, marketing and exhibition staff. The
successful candidate should be an adaptable team player, who is dedicated to
the Center’s mission and able to manage a variety of programs
simultaneously. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing and public
speaking skills. Knowledge of Anne Frank, the Holocaust, and current human
rights and tolerance issues is preferred.

Responsibilities include:

1. Design and implement mission-driven educational programming for family
and public audiences at the AFC; evaluate current programming and grow
audiences for these programs.

2. Manage and expand AFC’s core in-school education programs, including
developing curriculum, hiring and training of artists, program planning, and
recruiting new schools.

3. Spearhead outreach efforts to local high schools and colleges to promote
AFC’s volunteer programs; oversee the recruitment and training of interns
and volunteers.

4. Create and manage budgets, and track and maintain statistical information
for all program areas.

5. Assist with grant writing, identifying new funding sources, marketing,
and other administrative duties as necessary to promote the Center’s mission
and help build new audiences.

Required Qualifications:
Dynamic and insightful educator with experience teaching a variety of
audiences in a museum setting.
Highly organized with strong oral and written communications skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and solid computer skills.
Understanding of National Learning and Common Core Standards; familiarity
with NYC Dept. of Education and NYC schools preferred.
Minimum 5 years experience teaching in a museum or cultural organization.
B. A. required; Master’s degree in education, museum or arts administration
preferred.

The Director of Education position is full-time including health insurance
and paid time off and reports to the Executive Director. Hours are 9-5
Monday-Friday with some evening/weekend hours required. Salary range $45,000
– $50,000.
