Job Summary/Responsibilities: Occupational Summary:
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Coordinator of School
and Community Programs develops and implements a cohesive group of education
programs that link school and community audiences with LSU MOA’s collections
and exhibitions. The Coordinator is committed to arts-integration in K-12
education and creates innovative and collaborative educational programs with
the University, as well as other artist organizations and school partners in
Baton Rouge. The coordinator meets monthly with civic stakeholders in East
Baton Rouge Parish with interest in the arts, including the Mayor’s office,
the Manship Theatre, and LASM.

Work Performed:

*         Develops new initiatives and collaborations with University and
school partners, and identifies and contributes to grants and sponsorships
well-suited to supporting them. Builds relationships with K-12 teachers and
administrators, with community partners, and with University faculty and
students. Promotes these programs in the community.

*         Develops and implements interdisciplinary curricula based on
exhibitions (on-site, mobile settings, and virtual) for a variety of
programming needs including early childhood programs, school field trips,
alternative educational settings, and weekend and summer camps.

*         Develops online supplementary educational resources and curricula
and activities to support museum-based activities.

*         Collaborates with university faculty members to develop resources
for use in LSU courses.

*         Trains and supervises a corps of adult docents, and will develop
docent program for LSU students. Serves as museum liaison to docent corps.

*         Works with curator(s) to develop interpretive material for museum
exhibitions, publications, and other appropriate contexts.

*         Maintains liaison with LSU’s Office of Equity, Diversity, and
Community Outreach, and collaborates with them on community arts projects,
as appropriate.

*         Maintains liaison with local teachers and principals, other museum
educators, and other community arts organizations. Establishes and maintains
liaison with other museum educators regionally and nationally.

*         Creates budget for education department. Participates in grant
proposal writing for education program-related museum funding.   Required
Qualifications: Master’s degree in art history, museum education, or related
field; seven years of work experience; prior supervisory experience; track
record of successful grant writing; knowledge of current education theories
and trends in formal and informal educational settings.   Special
Requirements: Must be available to work some nights and weekends.

This position requires a current Louisiana Class “E” driver’s license. If
you have a current out-of-state driver’s license and you are hired, you must

an interview.   Desired Qualifications: Experience within a university art
museum setting; demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize short-term
and long-term projects; exceptional oral and written communication skills;
demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with museum
staff, university faculty and students, teachers, school administrators, and
docents; demonstrated interest in the sharing of ideas and community
building.
