Full-time, temporary, through June 2015

A full-time, temporary position is available for a curatorial assistant who will work with the curatorial team organizing the permanent collection installation for the 2015 inauguration of the Whitney’s new building.

Reporting directly to the Curator of the Permanent Collection, the incumbent will provide daily administrative support during all phases of the project; undertake object research for the purposes of creating a checklist; assist with general preparation for the display of works; communicate with artists and galleries; assist with matters of conservation, registration, development, and photography; assist with educational didactics and website content; assist with the compilation of the accompanying publications, including assembling necessary back-up information. Opportunities for writing may be available. The position will work closely with the Assistant Curator for the New Building Project and will be responsible for supervising one or more interns.

Requirements: B.A. (art history or fine art) and conversant in modern and contemporary art; at least 2 years of museum experience, preferably collection-based; strong computer skills, including experience with TMS, Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint; comprehensive knowledge of office practices and procedures; excellent organizational ability and attention to detail; strong verbal communication and diplomatic manner; strong writing and research skills; ability to handle several projects simultaneously, maintain schedules, and meet tight deadlines. Strong teamwork skills are crucial.
