DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Site manager II position at Historic Stagville State Historic Site in Durham.  This leadership position is responsible for the supervision, preservation, program development and operation of the antebellum Bennehan-Cameron plantation. Work will include development and implementing operational and interpretive plans and include developing community support; maintaining a strong volunteer program; conducting visitor services and presentations on and off-site; coordinating budget and purchasing; conducting research; maintaining the restored Bennehan house and family cemetery, Horton house, Horton Grove and enslaved houses and the modern visitor center, planning events and directly supervising two full-time staff members,  Work schedule will be Monday-Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.  Some holiday, evening and weekend work can be expected.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES:
Applicant should possess a knowledge of North Carolina and antebellum history; a demonstrated ablility to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; the ability to interpret policies, rules, and procedures; the ability to analyze problems and offer solutions; demonstrated knowledge and skill of staff supervision; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the staff, volunteers, community and visitors;.  Strong public relations skills are required.  Applicant must be willing to work with diverse community groups and be able to multi-task, exercise tact and good judgment at all times.  Must work independently as well as effectively as a team member.  Excellent computer skills are recommended, especially with MS Office programs.  Basic accounting skills are necessary and knowledge of basic maintenance  and craft skills are important.
 
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from a four-year college with a major in history or a field specifically related to the site of employment and one year of experience in managing the operation of a historic site, in historical research or interpretation, or in a field specifically related to the site of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
