Historic Preservation Specialist [Rosin Preservation]

Posted by Phillippa Pitts on December 1, 1972 in job announcements |

Rosin Preservation, one of Kansas City’s leading historic preservation consulting firms, is hiring a Historic Preservation Specialist to work in our Crossroads office.  This entry-level position will assist senior staff while gaining professional experience and training.

The core duties will provide support on a variety of preservation projects.  Tasks will be varied and multiple.   Specific assignments may include:  field work for historic resource surveys; archival research (on line and/or in library); data entry; writing building descriptions and property histories; preparing photos to support historic tax credit applications (before and/or after building rehabilitation); and documenting building conditions.  This is not a design position.

Occasional travel, typically within a 3-hour radius of Kansas City and occasionally overnight, is part of the job (travel costs reimbursed).  A reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s license are required.  The position also involves visiting dilapidated buildings, which may present physically challenging conditions, such as uneven surfaces; lack of working elevator, electricity, heating or cooling; mold; animal droppings; etc.

Rosin Preservation wants to meet candidates with a Masters degree in Historic Preservation. A degree in a related field (such as Urban Planning, History, Architectural Studies, etc.) will be considered if the candidate has coursework or practical experience in architectural history, American history, and building/materials conservation.

Excellent written and verbal skills are critical.  Experience with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential. Familiarity with Microsoft Access and Adobe Photoshop are preferred.  Experience photographing buildings, landscapes and architectural details using a digital SLR camera is also desired.  (A personal camera is not required.)

Preferred candidate will have previous experience working in a small-office environment; will be well-organized and easy-going; will have good time-management and inter-personal skills; will be able to work in both quiet and active environments (i.e. periods of focused production and the crunch of meeting deadlines); and will be willing to ask questions and seek input.  Most importantly, the successful candidate will mesh with our company culture.

The HP Specialist will be a full-time (40 hours/week) permanent position beginning in early 2013.  The specific start date is flexible.

Applicants should send a letter of interest and a resume to Elizabeth Rosin, info@rosinpreservation.com.   Deadline for application is Thursday, December 27, 2012 @ 8:00 am.  Background check will be conducted before hiring.
