Rosin Preservation,¬†one of Kansas City‚Äôs leading historic preservation consulting firms, is hiring¬†a Historic Preservation Specialist¬†to work in our Crossroads office.¬† This entry-level¬†position will assist senior staff while gaining professional experience and¬†training.
The core duties will provide support on a variety of preservation¬†projects.¬† Tasks will be varied and¬†multiple.¬†¬† Specific assignments may¬†include:¬† field work for historic¬†resource surveys; archival research (on line and/or in library); data entry; writing¬†building descriptions and property histories; preparing photos to support¬†historic tax credit applications (before and/or after building rehabilitation);¬†and documenting building conditions.¬† This¬†is not a design position.
Occasional travel, typically¬†within a 3-hour radius of Kansas City and occasionally overnight, is part of¬†the job (travel costs reimbursed).¬† A¬†reliable vehicle and a valid driver‚Äôs license are required.¬† The position also involves visiting¬†dilapidated buildings, which may present physically challenging conditions,¬†such as uneven surfaces; lack of working elevator, electricity, heating or¬†cooling; mold; animal droppings; etc.
Rosin Preservation wants to meet candidates with a¬†Masters degree in Historic Preservation.¬†A degree in a related field (such as Urban Planning, History,¬†Architectural Studies, etc.) will be considered if the candidate has coursework¬†or practical experience in architectural history, American history, and¬†building/materials conservation.
Excellent written and verbal skills are critical.¬† Experience with the Microsoft Office suite¬†(Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential. Familiarity with Microsoft Access and Adobe¬†Photoshop are preferred.¬† Experience¬†photographing buildings, landscapes and architectural details using a digital¬†SLR camera is also desired. ¬†(A personal¬†camera is not required.)
Preferred candidate will have previous experience¬†working in a small-office environment; will be well-organized and easy-going; will¬†have good time-management and inter-personal skills; will be able to work in¬†both quiet and active environments (i.e. periods of focused production and the¬†crunch of meeting deadlines); and will be willing to ask questions and seek¬†input.¬† Most importantly, the successful¬†candidate will mesh with our company culture.
The HP Specialist will be a¬†full-time (40 hours/week) permanent position beginning in early 2013.¬† The specific start date is flexible.
