Alice Austen House Museum

(Staten Island NY)

The Alice Austen House Museum seeks an Executive Director
The directorship of the Alice Austen House Museum on Staten Island, NY, is an exciting opportunity for a creative, hands-on, and visionary leader.  Alice Austen was one of America’s earliest and most prolific female photographers as well as a landscape designer, a master tennis player, and the first woman on Staten Island to own a car.  A rebel who broke away from the constraints of her Victorian environment, Austen created her own independent life.
The museum is housed in a Victorian Gothic cottage that dates back to a 1690 Dutch farmhouse. It sits on the water with a magnificent panoramic view that stretches from Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Verrazano Bridge.  Its activities are divided into three categories: exhibits, education, and public programs.  The museum furthermore owns and cares for a large collection of Austen’s photographs
