Heart of Brooklyn seeks a full-time manager of its youth education

programs, including after-school and summer camp.

Heart of Brooklyn (HOB) is a cultural partnership of six of Brooklyn’s most

esteemed organizations: Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn Children’s

Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Public Library, Prospect Park, and

Prospect Park Zoo. Heart of Brooklyn provides education, economic

development, and outreach initiatives for residents of Brooklyn, while

promoting Heart of Brooklyn’s cultural treasures to the rest of New York

HOB’s education programs consist of the award-winning Brooklyn Cultural

Adventures Program (BCAP) Summer Camp, BCAP After-School, and BCAP Express.

BCAP Summer Camp is for children ages 7-12. Launched in 1998, BCAP Summer

Camp offers cultural enrichment to Brooklyn’s youth by combining the unique

resources of the six Heart of Brooklyn cultural institutions. BCAP

After-School works in partnership with organizations serving low-income

families. BCAP Express provides low cost, high quality tours and one stop

shopping for summer camps looking to organize and enhance their cultural

visits.

 

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

 

* Coordinate & manage BCAP Summer Camp, BCAP After-School, and BCAP Express

* Serve as Camp Manager and After-School Manager

* Recruit, hire, and supervise seasonal staff including assistant camp

manager, senior/junior counselors, CITs, and interns

* Manage HOB Education and BCAP Committees

* Implement outreach to parents, schools, libraries, community centers, and

other organizations

* Perform any other program related duties as directed

 

Qualifications:

 

* Bachelor’s degree in education, environmental education or related field

(master’s degree preferred)

* Summer camp experience

* Experience in planning and implementing youth programs

* Familiarity with evaluation methods

* Excellent communication and writing skills

* Strong interpersonal relationship skills

* Demonstrated leadership ability and managerial strengths

* Experience with Microsoft Office and database programs

* Must possess (or be willing to obtain) CPR and first aid certificate

* Willingness to travel throughout Brooklyn; valid driver’s license

* Ability to work independently

 

Salary commensurate with experience.
