Education Associate
New Museum

The Education Associate is responsible for departmental administrative
duties and general support for the Director and Curator of Education and
Public Engagement. This position is an administrative position with
excellent potential for developing special projects in collaboration with
the Director and Curator of Education and Public Engagement and other
departmental staff representing public programs, curatorial activity,
interpretative materials, programs related to tour, youth, family,
community, and school-based audiences, and the Museum’s archive.

This is a full-time, permanent position. Working hours are 10am-6pm Monday
through Friday. Occasional evenings and weekends required. This positions
reports to the Director and Curator of Education and Public Engagement and
works closely with all departmental staff on conception and support of
programs and publications.


* Manage departmental and events calendar for all education and public

* Manage departmental mailing list/database

* Answer and direct telephone calls; respond to general education-related

* Coordinate travel arrangements and hospitality for visiting artists,
curators, and speakers for department

* Manage petty cash, reimbursements, check requests, and program budgets

* Assist with data entry and editing of web content

* Assist with diverse tasks related to departmental projects, such as
execution of professional development workshops, development of audio guide
materials, organization of Museum as Hub events, and project-specific
research and writing

* Coordinate development of exhibition-related public programming with
curatorial and public programs staff

* Help manage the 5th floor resource center, including acquisitions and

exhibition organizer, or curator


Candidate should be well organized and proficient in all MS Office (Word,
Excel Powerpoint) and Outlook programs and comfortable learning basic web
applications. Solid writing, communications, and organizational skills
required. S/he will be capable of handling multiple tasks in a lively
environment. The right candidate should be able to manage diverse
administrative duties but also be motivated to contribute creatively and to
bring their specialized knowledge to the department. The New Museum’s
Education Department is responsible for publishing, programming, archives,
interpretive materials, tours, curating, and other mediation programs and
seeks candidates with experience in these varied aspects of the art context.
B.A. in a relevant field and specific knowledge of contemporary art is
required, M.A. preferred.
