Position Summary:

The School and Teacher Program Specialist is responsible for the development
and implementation of educational programs for K-12 students and teachers
interpreting the museums natural science and arts collection. The School and
Teacher Program Specialist also acts as an ambassador for the Museum¹s
school directed educational services and promote them to public, private,
and home school parents, teachers and administrators to optimize
opportunities for the Museum to serve students and increase the overall
impact of the Museum¹s educational programs.

Primary Functions and Major Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Education and Public Program Manager. School and Teacher
Program Specialist will interact with the education team, collection &
exhibition teams, development, and audiences of all ages to perform the
following duties:

Duties include:

·       Educator-Led Programs: Develop, implement and present educator-led
programs for visiting K-12 school groups including pre-tour information for
teachers, school tour content, and post-tour teacher evaluations. Pilot and
test new educational programs and curricula materials. Align programs with
the exhibitions, collections and mission of the Berkshire Museum following
departmental models and educational philosophy, and are compatible with MA,
NY State and 21st century learning national standards.

·       Curriculum: Oversee the development of curriculum consistent with
the mission and vision of the Museum.

·       Educational Outreach and Special Programs: Develop, schedule and
present educational activities for a variety of on- and off-site programs
including, but not limited to afterschool programs, camps, classes and
special programs for targeted populations. Participate in related community
organizations as appropriate and needed.

·       Professional Development for Teachers and Museum Staff: Develop,
schedule and present as instructor or obtain instructors for workshops and
programs for pre- and in-service professional development for teachers and
museum staff. Maintaining current knowledge of educational (both school and
museum) theories as well as local and national curriculums and learning
standards.

·       Promotion and Marketing: Work directly with the Director of
Communications to develop the education collateral including the copy for
education brochure, teacher reception postcards and professional development
material. Maintain an active presence on the education department¹s social
media outlets, including the museum¹s BerkED Facebook page.

·       Budget: Work directly with the Education and Public Program Manager
in preparing annual budget and goals for education portion of the
interpretation departmental budget. Prepare budgets for grant proposals.

·       Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Education and
Public Program Manager.

Qualifications:

·  3 years of experience working as an educator (formally or informally)
with school age students, and the general public, in a museum or other
public program setting

·  Bachelor¹s degree in education or museum studies with knowledge of
learning theory, and museum practices, advanced degree preferred

·  Must be computer literate with a strong knowledge of current MS
applications

·  A working knowledge of Past Perfect and Adobe Creative Suite preferred

·  Excellent writing and public speaking skills necessary

·  Ability to work effectively under minimal supervision and in a team
oriented environment

·  Must be able to communicate professionally with administrators,
educators, and the general public.

·  A sense of humor and total enjoyment of work is an absolute must

·  Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed including occasional
evenings, weekends, and holidays

·  Candidate must maintain a current Massachusetts driver¹s license,
personal automobile insurance and a safe driving record

·  Must be able to work and/or type at a desk, climb stairs and lift up to
30 pounds
