MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum (JPPM), an agency of the Maryland Department of Planning, hosts thousands of school children each year for educational programs on archeaology and guided tours of park grounds, which includes over 500 scenic acres along the Patuxent River.  Our educational staff coordinate with school teachers and work hard to develop new, creative ways of helping students learn about Maryland’s culture and history.

We are currently seeking an Education Coordinator to conduct and develop educational programs that help improve public accessibility to, and understand the history and archaeology of, Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum.  This is a full-time position located in St. Leonard, MD with full State benefits package available.

POSITION DUTIES

The position acts as the main point of contact for local schools and other interested groups for on-site and outreach educational programs and is responsible for scheduling, coordinating and facilitating educational programs to primarily school groups, grades K-12, throughout the academic year and to general public audiences during the summer season.

Duties also include, but are not limited to: conducting outreach activities in local schools; assisting JPPM staff with events such as Children’s Day on the Farm and 1812 Fair and Re-enactment; creating printed marketing materials for educational programs; coordinating public programs and workshops; and supervising seasonal education program workers.

Successful candidates must have excellent communication skills, the ability to work with diverse groups and individuals, and the ability to work weekends.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, history, anthropology or other related field from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Two years of experience in developing and presenting on-site educational programs.

Note:

1.Candidates may substitute additional experience as state above on a year-for-year basis of the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with children, grades K-12, in an educational setting.  Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the history and archaeology of the Chesapeake Bay region is also a plus.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties will be requried to possess a valid driver’s license.
