*Position Title:  Assistant Curator of Education*
** **Occupational Summary****

As part of an education team, this position will focus on the visitor¹s
experience, both remote and in-gallery including the design and
implementation of in-gallery interactives and technology-based initiatives
as well as programming. The fundamental goal of this position is to develop
substantial and widespread sustained growth in both of these areas with the
ultimate result of the development of new audiences. ****

*Essential Duties and Responsibilities*

* *

**1.      **With the Education/Curatorial team, develop and implement
in-gallery interpretation for the permanent collection, temporary exhibits,
and other interpretive areas, both hands-on and technology-based, as
determined throughout the year.****

**2.      **With education team, continued assessment and development of
programs for magnet schools, home school, visiting tour groups, educator
workshops, outreach, studio, and special needs groups. Position will also
research and write grants for the development of these and other related
programs.****

** **

**3.      **Develop online resources and training materials for educators
and adult visitors and work with the education team on developing new adult
programs and community partnerships.****

** **

** **
Other Duties and Responsibilities****

** **

**1.      **Part of team developing and managing budget and performs
administration duties.****

** **

**2.      **Participates in on-going grant writing, budget planning,
strategic and interpretive planning and assessment of programs and
experiences.****

** **

**4.      **Work with Marketing Department on the Museum website inclusive
of the Education area and work with the Curatorial Department on the
database driven collections management software and related online
galleries in development.****

** **

**3.      **Participates in continuing education by attending seminars
and/or workshops.****

** **

**4.      **Part of Docent training and management team.****

** **

**5.      **Assists with public programs including Avant Art programming,
Thursday evening programs, First Sundays at the Hunter, and other
in-gallery or off-site opportunities.****

** **

**6.      **Assists with technological initiatives.****

** **

**7.      **Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.****

** **

*Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:* ****

** **

Individual must have at least five years experience in museum education and
have strong skills with multiple forms of technology used in the context of
museum interpretation. This individual should be well versed in
contemporary visitor-centric museum education practices and experience
working with novice adult viewers.  Must also have experience in embedding
museum experiences in school curricula.****

** **

Ideal candidate has experience as part of visitor centered museum and be
dedicated to the development of self-supporting walk-in visitor
experiences, creating level of comfort for all visitors, with special
attention to novice viewers of all ages. Must be a team player in working
across departments and community institutions and do well working in a
vibrant and fast paced environment.****

*Educational/Experience Requirements:*

** **

**·   **M.A. in interpretive studies, museum studies, museum education,
arts administration, or art history or related field of study****

**·   **5 years experience in art museum education and object based learning
****

**·   **Experience with staff and/or volunteer supervision required****

**·   **Comfort with and knowledge of multiple technological tools and
proven ability to master new technologies quickly required****

**·   **American art background a  plus****

**·   **Excellent oral and written communication skills and comfort with
technology required****

*Supervises: *

– Assists with supervising education related museum volunteers****

*Working Conditions: *Must be willing to work weekends and evenings.  Must
be able to lift equipment and materials for programs as needed.  Employee
has an office equipped with a computer.****
