DESCRIPTION:

The Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation, Natural and
Historical Resources Division is seeking a Museum Public Program Assistant
for the College Park Aviation Museum.  The College Park Aviation Museum is
the world’s oldest continuously operating airport located in College Park,
MD. The facility offers interested visitors of all ages education exhibits,
special events, programs and tours for the general public.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience working with museums
and museum programming, museum education, marketing and tourism, and
computer proficiency with software programs for marketing/design, and
familiarity with website applications. This candidate will also have the
ability to work with a diverse audience from pre-school age to seniors as
well as those with special needs.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT DUTIES:

Assist in developing and implementing innovative education and interpretive
programs, special events, activities and other events for the public.

Markets and publicizes programs, designs and develops flyers, brochures and
other publications, responsible for museum’s website, works with media,
newspapers and other forms of marketing.

Coordinates and promotes specialty programs such as scout programs,
aviation birthday parties, Peter Pan Club (ages 3-5), Teen Advisory
Council, aviation lectures, trips and book signings, as well as museum
traveling exhibits.

Works with the general public and responds to visitor inquiries and
questions as well as provides information about museum operations and
programs.

Gives tours, leads programs, speaks in front of groups, coordinates with
multiple partners, and interprets historical information.

Assists with supervision of museum volunteers, directs programming
volunteers and PT staff, and other duties in the absence of management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor¹s degree in history, American studies, museum studies,
archaeology, education, historic preservation, or a related field; and

2. One year of related experience; or

3. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

4. Valid driver¹s license, or the ability to acquire one.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

Master’s Degree in museum field desirable.

Minimum one year of experience in museum public programming.

Experience in aviation history or museum field desirable, but not required.

Some weekend hours are required.
