*The Metropolitan Museum of Art*, one of the world¹s finest museums, seeks
a Senior Educator who shall, under the guidance of the Managing Museum
Educator for Gallery and Studio Programs (GSP), provide strategic
leadership and comprehensive oversight of the Met’s family, teen, and
multigenerational programs. S/he defines and guides the overall pedagogy
for activities that foster meaningful engagement with works of art and
enable young people and their adult companions to make the Met a place for
personal connection, artistic insight, creative inspiration, and socially
and culturally-grounded exchange. The Senior Educator leverages programs
and partnerships to expand and diversify audiences and positions the Met as
a leader of high-impact, high-quality learning programs for
multigenerational and young audiences.****

The Senior Educator supervises three program staff members and ensures that
contractual and staff educators enact museum-wide goals as they teach a
variety of audiences. S/he seeks opportunities for cross-pollination among
activities and advances efforts that capitalize on the social, informal
nature of museum learning, developing and expanding multi-modal,
multi-generational programs. The Senior Educator plays a leading role in
conceptualizing festivals and other large multi-age events, family guides,
and digital resources; manages teams in developing these programs and
tools; ensures ongoing evaluation of programs, including those developed in
collaboration with other Museum departments; guides promotional efforts;
strategically initiates and sustains relationships with external groups;
develops and manages budgets, funding proposals, and reports. S/he The
Senior Educator actively contributes to the Museum education field and
teaches a variety of audiences. The Senior Educator uses current research
and practice, knowledge of the Met’s collections and audiences, and a focus
on multi-modal engagement with works of art to inform all initiatives.****

*PRIMARY DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:*

€        Define and lead pedagogy for Met programs that serve families with
young children, teens, and multigenerational groups, including public
programs, Membership classes, and select Development events. Work
collaboratively with the program leader for Access and Community Programs
and with other Gallery and Studio Programs staff to guide and integrate
efforts; ensure that program frameworks and teaching approaches align with
the Museum’s Teaching Goals and GSP priorities. Oversee goal-setting across
program areas; observe programs regularly; ensure ongoing, strategic
evaluation of activities; and promote approaches informed by evaluation
results, current learning theory, audience research, and analysis. (20%)****

€        Supervise two educators and one coordinator; provide general
oversight of contractual educators, volunteers, and interns who teach and
staff programs; ensure appropriate allocation of personnel to programs
relative to program complexity and impact. (20%)****

€        Play a leading role in conceptualizing high-visibility facilitated
programs and self-guided resources; manage cross-departmental teams; and
develop and implement appropriate, strategic methods to assess impact of
these programs. (20%)****

€        Teach across program areas. (15%)****

€        Oversee budget development and strategically manage resources;
develop and guide funding proposals and reports. (10%)****

€        Guide promotional efforts that sustain current audiences and
attract those who do not yet participate; strategically initiate and
sustain relationships with external groups; collaborate with staff across
the Met to advance audience development goals. (10%)****

€        Initiate and sustain productive relationships across the Museum,
including Curatorial and Conservation departments, and play active
leadership role across the Gallery and Studio Programs Division and
Education. (5%)****

*REQUIREMENTS and QUALIFICATIONS:*

*Experience and Skills:*

€        Minimum 7 years experience in the art museum education field.****

€        Minimum 5 years experience supervising personnel, including paid
full-time staff members, and instilling high performance standards.****

€        Minimum 5 years experience in program development and program
management.****

€        Demonstrated ability to lead teams effectively.****

€        Demonstrable teaching excellence and ability to engage children,
families, and teens with works of art; ability to teach a variety of
audiences in a museum setting.****

€        Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including
presentational skills, negotiation skills, ability to work collaboratively
within and beyond the Museum, ability to tailor speech and writing to a
variety of audiences and purposes, and to communicate effectively through a
range of print and digital vehicles.****

€        Excellent organizational skills, follow-through, problem-solving
skills, and ability to develop effective program structures and work
processes; ability to manage multiple projects.****

€        Demonstrated experience and commitment to working with individuals
from a wide range of social, economic, cultural and educational
backgrounds; track record of expanding and diversifying participation and
audience levels in educational offerings.****

€        Demonstrated experience in communicating with and building new
family and teen audiences.****

€        Budget management skills.****

*Knowledge and Education:*

€        Master’s degree in art, art history, education, or other related
field in the humanities or social sciences required. Demonstrable knowledge
of art and art history required.****

€        Demonstrable knowledge of current approaches to youth and family
learning within a museum setting and to multigenerational, multi-modal
learning.****

€        Demonstrable knowledge in current evaluation and audience research
methods.****

€        Command of Microsoft Office Suite and ease with a variety of
digital technologies.****

€        Command and demonstrated use of social media tools as means of
building community and reaching new audiences.****
