KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Program Development  and Administration/Outreach

  • Assist with training of volunteer docents
  • Work with Education Department staff to develop and implement an outreach plan to grow new and repeat participation in educational programs
  • Work with Education Department staff to plan, develop, implement and evaluate school programs
  • Insure that all educational and public programs are evaluated in a consistent manner
  • Work with Curator of Education to develop and manage all departmental budgets
  • Work with Curator of Education in preparing, tracking, evaluating, and reporting of all education programming grants
  • Recruit, train, and supervise student employees and interns

Education, Research, and Exhibition

  • Serve as primary outreach instructor for UIMA K-12 School Programs
  • Research, write or collaborate with Education Department staff on didactic materials for UIMA K-12 School Programs
  • Facilitate partnerships with school teachers, school administrators, and staff at partner community organizations
  • Work with Education Department staff to market resources and programs to K-12 student and teacher audiences
  • Address UI classes, when appropriate
  • Offer input to curators and preparator regarding functioning of exhibition spaces
  • Oversee and participate in public programs
  • Prepare reports of education and public program attendance, including narratives, when appropriate
  • Work with Education Department staff to develop and implement on-site guided tours for academic and public audiences

Maintain and Preserve Collections/Exhibit

  • Perform all collections management duties regarding UIMA K-12 School Programs Collections, including storage design, transportation, handling, and reporting

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in art history, art education, museum studies or related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 6 months to 1 year of work experience in a museum in an academic environment
  • 6 months to 1 year of teaching experience at the K-12 and/or university levels
  • 6 months to 1 year of supervisory experience (staff and volunteers)
  • 6 months to 1 year of administrative experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and attention to detail
  • Successful candidate must be flexible, able to handle multiple requests simultaneously, and have the ability to analyze and resolve problems
  • Ability to move and carry objects up to 125-150 pounds required
